I was just surprised it was so cheap. I placed the order at Arrow, and it was +180 (This was with early bird pricing). Amazon is hovering around that price as well. I've never seen the middleman Diabolik cheaper than anyone.

This year is really turning out very well for classic kung-fu. Eureka releasing Duel to the Death is amazing. 88 films is killing it with Fists of the White Lotus, and all the older Shaw. Crippled Avengers is one of the best in the lot from Arrow.

My HOPE is that one day someone releases a great Jackie Chan or Jet Li set.
88, it seems has this obsession with Jackie Chan. Glad Arrow is putting something together from the age, BC.

IFC has something, not Shaw focused but they get a good bit of airtime.

Target has their pre-order up for $131.99. Pretty good deal when combined with their redcard discount.

https://www.target.com/p/shawscope-v...70#lnk=sametab

Funny enough, Target tried to fit the box art into their typical Blu-ray dimensions, and it ended up looking like this (which I'd probably prefer tbh)

I placed an order with Target. A better deal than Diabolik for me, and I didn't have to pay up front.

BullMoose has it for $128.97. I think I'm going to lock my order in with them. I have never had no problems with there packaging and there right up there with Diabolik on good service. This will save some money for me instead of paying straight up at Diabolik and I will be able to get that Joseph Kuo Eureka set

Amazon will likely match soon enough.

$128.45 at DeepDiscount.

They have some one-time use coupons for 10% off, including pre-orders. Try 65BT4X2D4 or PLUNGE. Free shipping at that price too.

So, around $84 with Red Card discount if you can get it during the 2 for 3?

I suspect it won't be included as part of that while a pre-order. During the last B2G1 promo Vengeance Trails and Daimajin weren't included.

Has Arrow ever release a box set in the same style as the Shaw Bros one? I'm very curious if this will be awful like the Spielberg set or wonderful like the Columbia set that has a case for each movies. I really really hope it's the latter. With limited sets like Daimajin, inside is a case for each movies. Then again, the big Gamera set didn't, so who knows?

The mock-up looks like a long, rigid slipcase with side-loading digi-books, so I don't think the movies will be in cases. Probably similar to Criterion’s Zatoichi... but in Shawscope ratio.

That would be a huge bummer, especially since this is such a mish mash of movies. I love putting my movies in chronological order, so I figured i'd get them out. Especially with The chinese boxer coming out around the same time. Arrow, don't mess this up! These movies deserve their own cases each, some of them are bonafide classics.

Be careful - a lot of users around here have had massive problems pre-ordering Arrow items with Deep Discount. Often they'll cancel on the day of release, leaving you scrambling to find it elsewhere.

Fair enough. That would be awful. Though I have seen a lot of outdated DD comments about canceled preorders or other issues, but honestly I’ve been consistently ordering with them for years now without an issue. I think a number of people have understandably given up on them and still hold a grudge, but they’ve apparently improved their service in the interim. I have zero experience with preordering Arrow titles from DD though.

I'm talking very recently; I know it happened to A LOT of people with the Gamera set last year, and then again with the Daimajin set just this week. Some people did get theirs, but many people were posting that their pre-orders were cancelled.

DD are fine for your average purchasing, but pre-ordering limited edition Arrow items through them is a big risk.

I pre-ordered the Black Sabbath Sabotage cd set with DD not too long ago and was charged twice on my card; once on the pre-order and once when it shipped. I did contact them and the charge was reversed but it still sucks that it took roughly 4 days for the extra charge to drop off. At least it wasn't a pre-order for over $100. Otherwise, I have used them to just buy a release no problems.

Thankfully more places are going to carry it. But, I do have to pinch myself and ask "What kind of world do I live in when Target, of all companies, is carrying SB titles?". That's almost like saying Wal-Mart is selling it too. Kinda. Just really weird strange world we live in.

I mentioned this in the Arrow thread too, and I’m not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but on a podcast interview today James White stated that there would be two volumes of the Shaw Scope box releases. He also mentioned 30 films - though I’m not sure whether this was an off handed reference.

James White was on a podcast talking about his restoration work for Arrow and the Shaw Brothers box set came up (starts at 34:05). Some quick notes:

-There will be two volumes, they're roughly in chronological order. Basically confirms 36th Chamber will be in volume 2.
-L'Immagine Ritrovata is involved with the transfers, but R3store Studios in London are doing the color grading with supervision from Arrow
-About 30 total films from Celestial are involved (presumably 24 in the sets, about 6 outside of it? Presumably films for the US that 88 Films or Eureka owns in the UK)
-Chinatown Kid has 2nd generation elements for the missing 30 minutes+ of footage, it will be the original full length cut
