When you don't have the $30 to buy one, spend $5 to rent one!

Rental numbers are important, too.

Last time I went to my local BB, they didnt have blu. I guess I could look again. I would support renting on blu if blockbuster would let me. I might even get Blockbuster Online again if the store by me gets Blu's in. That way I can get free instore blu rentals instead of blu online and dvd at the store.

I don't rent at blockbuster too much because of netfilx..... But I did go in the store to rent 300 because it's a long wait for netflix... the blu-ray copy was out so I rented it in HD DVD

Wish my local Blockbuster was one of the "Blu Ones," otherwise I would have never left BB online!

My Blockbuster is great!! They got Blu in about a month ago and, according to the 19 year old who works there, their regional manger has not given them the okay to take up shelf space with them. So when I go in I ask for the Box-o Blu's. They have them sitting in a huge moving box. The best thing... They are always in and they keep getting new titles as they are released.

I've been renting Blu-rays through my Total Access eschange plan since I bought a PS3 in July. There's plenty of titles they dont carry though, and limited supply of what they do carry, and 1 copy per title. And not every blockbuster carrys blu-ray (2/3 close to me do)

Blockbuster has been anti consumer since the beginning, which is the reason I have not stepped foot in one for years. BB will only do what is best for BB. Look how long it took them to start renting DVDs. If you want to help BR, just rent from Netflix. Rentals count the same no matter where you rent from.

Everyone is upset about Paramount being anti-consumer because they went from supporting both to only HD DVD - doesn't that same logic work against BB.

What a stupid regional. He is losing sales by not having the movies out. I am sure they could find space. His company is paying money to get blu ray movies and they keep getting new ones as you said. But they are sitting in a box behind a counter? wow.

The difference is, Block Buster was reporting more BD rentals than HDDVD and they did not completely stop renting them...just not in B&M stores that didn't all ready have them.

And Paramounts sales figures would imply they went against the 2:1 lead BD has over HDDVD in their decision to back the format with smaller sales.

They are also reporting more DVD rentals than the HD formats combined - would it be okay to drop both?

My local store hasn't gotten them yet, but I rent Blu from BB online all the time and I always get the new releases. I was previously a Netflix customer, but with BB total access I switched. I generally get Blu online, then rent whatever isn't available on blu in-store.

DVD sales are beating out HD all around. Maybe Blu-ray and HD-DVD should just give up and we can stick with DVD for the next 20 years or so.

With studios moving to downloads and the increase of people purchasing movies, I would really be suprised if the b&m BB will be around. As all the rivals have either bought each other out or closed for good.
Blockbuster is freakin expensive to purchase movies. My wife worked at one for a year and it was a joke, they would get 50 new release movies in to sell and maybe sell one or two. I always agree with the theory of making three nickels or one dime.
Thats why I love Amazon.com,they are in the ball game to move volume.

What?!?!

Paramount went from BOTH to ONLY HD.
Blockbuster went from having 250 test stores carrying BOTH to adding 1400 more stores carrying BLU due to demand. They didn't decrease their HD titles at all. They just increased BD because that's what the market wanted.

What you said makes no sense.

You're right about the sell-thru items being outrageously expensive. I almost laugh when people throw down $25 for a new SD. It'll be worth $5 next week! And most sit on the shelves for months, sometimes over a year, literally, and then we send them back because they don't sell. What a shock.

But I don't think the stores are going to go away anytime soon. There is a big enough fraction of the market who just rent spontaneously. We get a lot of teens who come in every two or three weeks just looking for something to do. These aren't people who are ever going to be downloading. They like coming in the store. A lot of people between 30 - 50 still like going to the store...looking at the boxes...asking for opinions face to face. I saw a poll that said about 70 - 80% of people are not even interested in downloading movies. The technology is still years off and people prefer hard copies.

Come in a blockbuster on a Friday or Saturday night and then try to picture them closing down. It's not going to happen for years and years.
