USA The Green Knight (2021) - October 12, 2021

A24 (via Lionsgate) will be releasing The Green Knight on Blu-ray, and on 4K UHD on October 12th.

Quote:
An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, THE GREEN KNIGHT tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur's reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger. From visionary filmmaker David Lowery comes a fresh and bold spin on a classic tale from the knights of the round table.
Director David Lowery did recently confirm via Reddit that a Collector's edition is planned for next year, possibly with a Director's cut, .This might be similar to Midsommar, where A24 releases that one directly.

Very glad A24 is releasing a 4K edition to the market, and not making it an A24 website exclusive like the director's cut of MIDSOMMAR.

Excellent movie, day 1 for me.

Really good film, but weird that they didn't at least make the title's logo green.

I like this poster .

I'm glad that it's coming to UHD, but that just makes it all the more confusing that The Lighthouse didn't.

Nope. It's a pretty typical addition to many A24 / Lionsgate releases in recent years unfortunately. Uncut Gems is one of the few that didn't have it. I was actually thinking last night that this is probably the only time the colors of the logo actually kind of match the cover art ..But yeah, I really wish a24 (or Lionsgate) would drop that or just put it on the back cover at the very least.

It certainly blends in more than the one I saw on “Color out of Space”!! But, my gosh they are ugly.

You should watch Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ. A lot of The Green Knight was seemingly inspired by that film.

He's had a commentary on every previous release. I'm fairly certain hell try to get one on this release.

The 4K director's cut will probably be another A24 exclusive like Midsommar though, bummer.

I haven't even watched so much as a trailer and I am ridiculously excite for this. I have it on pretty good authority (horroru included) that this film is indeed fantastic and should be right up my alley.

The whole A24 exclusivity shit irritates me beyond belief, especially considering that 4K UHD Director's Cut package for Midsommar is basically a barebones disc in ridiculous packaging with a ridiculous price tag. Not everyone wants to buy into that kind of useless "swag" and it's incredibly shortsighted of them to lock the DC behind such a paywall.

Thankfully the UK offers a Midsommar DC on Blu-ray and while it certainly isn't 4K UHD, it only cost me $6. If a DC shows up for The Green Knight and A24 insists on another overpriced package I'll just have to go with whatever other release might be available in the future.

Yeah it's pretty pricey, but I am pretty satisfied with the Midsommar DC 4K disc. It's probably the best A24 4K presentation out there.

I'm sure it's the best presentation, but that's the only thing that's on the disc. If it were a standard release people would complain about the lack of special features, not to mention the absence of a freakin' main menu.

It's basically $30 for just that packaging, which is ridiculous.

Yeah I agree ATD - and I own the damn thing! For the price point A24 should have put a hell of a lot more effort into that release, or lowered the price.

But I'm weak, and I agree with UnbelievableMontages that the 4K presentation is really spectacular.

Loved the film but don’t want to double-dip. Patience isn’t one of my virtues, however. Decisions decisions…
