The 2021 TV model year represents one of the biggest advancement in video display technology we've seen in many years. This is the first year we have Dual Cell LCD/LED TVs, MiniLED TVs, and larger and brighter OLED TVs. The advancement in 8K TVs have matured very nicely.

This year also give us many new brands of UST projectors and many employ dedicated Red, Green and Blue triple lasers with higher peak luminance that deliver a true 4K HDR experience.

Here's the link to our press release that went out to the media today:

The winner might be a 4K display instead of a 8K display. In order for the 8K display to have a picture quality advantage you well need to feed it some type of third party 8K demo material.

“King of 4K TV, King of 8K TV, and King of UST."

Will there be overall winner?

Correct @Panson, we'll have two separate TV Shootout Evaluation events this year.

Starting at 9am will be just the flagship 4K TVs from Hisense, Samsung, LG and Sony and after the 4K TV Shootout is concluded and we announce the new King of 4K TV we'll start the 8K TV Shootout.

After the 8K Shootout is concluded and we crown the King of 8K TV we'll put the two Kings next to each other and we'll play premium 4K HDR content on both TVs and we'll also have native 8K content with the 8K content dumbed down to 4K for the 4K TV to demonstrate if you can see a difference with a 8K TV.

Our UST Projector Shootout Evaluation will all be the best available multi-laser projectors.

We just received Hisense's first allocation of their new 75" U9DG Dual Cell LCD/LED 4K HDR TVs. These are the first and only Dual Cell TV available in the USA. It's Hisense's 2nd generation of Dual Cell display technology.

Very nice overall picture quality with over 2 million local dimming zones.

We test all of the TVs that go into our annual TV Shootout to ensure they are in the premium class of the three major brands and Hisense's 75U9DG made the cut and will be included in our September 12th 2021 TV Shootout Evaluation event.

The only real glaring negative is the power consumption: 400 watts. An LG 77" OLED 4K UHD TV consumes 160 watts.

Not all is wasted. It can also heat your room.

The website says it gets to up to 1000 nits peak brightness. I would have expected higher from a TV using that technology. It seems to be significantly lower than the QN90A. I hope we start seeing more TVs with over 1000 nits soon.

According to California Law, this TV can't be sold there. 75" is Tier 2 (greater than 55") which requires a 1 watt standby - meets that at 0.5 watts. But fails the:

Quote:
Tier 2 requires active mode power less than or equal to 0.12 x Screen Area + 25.
75" = 2403.56 inches for screen area X 0.12 = 288 + 25 = 313 maxium watts used.

The 75U9DG runs cooler then you would expect, but it does draw more current than most other TVs.

It's harder for dual cell to get brighter than mini led. That's why it hasn't been readily accepted by other manufacturers. Plus it costs more to produce.

I'm hearing good things about the Panasonic HZ2000 and JZ2000 here in the UK. A worthy opponent for the Sony A90J???

in previous years the Panasonic OLED's were the clear winner but it seems this year they took a small step back...still a great display but not the best
