Very excited to get this—I have the Paramount DVD still but have longed for an upgrade. I'm a big fan of this movie and have been for a long time. I preordered this on Amazon here in the States, and they have it listed as releasing November 26th. The price was a bit steep at $47, but it amounted to about the same with other online retailers once shipping was factored in. It seems that Amazon is carrying a lot of these Imprint releases in the U.S., as I've bought a few of them directly from Amazon this past year. I'm very eager to listen to the commentary with Kim Newman, who is always a lot of fun to listen to.

Yes, a bit. Received this message last week:
Dear Valued Imprint Films Fan! Just a courtesy note to let you know that your November 24th New Release Imprint order will ship on Wednesday/Thursday of next week. That is, December 1st/2nd. The replicator, Technicolor Australia, had a machine breakdown which caused a small, unexpected delay. Thank you for your support and patience! Imprint Films |

Just got my copy of this today from Deep Discount—the artwork looks fantastic and Imprint has a good number of bonus features that are worthwhile, which is the main attraction or me here. The picture quality is overall pretty good, though I felt like it looked a bit soft at times—I can't recall if that was the case on DVD as well, or if perhaps the film was shot like that. I am not a great judge of these things to be frank—I recall numerous people abhorred Imprint's transfer for Day of the Locust, and said the DVD was better, which I didn't agree with. In any event, it's definitely worth upgrading from the out-of-print Legend Films DVD.

I am looking to get this release, and I was wondering if this is fully uncut (like it says in the description) because one of the review says that the film actually contains the cut version and the product info is misleading. I haven't seen it yet and heard this film is shocking and want to watch it, so if the cut is minor and does not affect the film much, then I don't mind that, but if it is major it may dissuade me buying it.
Edit: decided to get it. Last edited by shy86; 12-31-2021 at 07:38 PM. |

I’m curious to know what the cut material was, if any. Did the reviewer specify?

There’s a scene where a boy of 12 is made to strip naked at knifepoint and dance about in front of his mother and sister.
It’s a very unpleasant and nasty scene and filmed in a leering way. It’s usually cropped for TV to hide the front views, so maybe that’s what’s happened here. 9 times out of 10 I don’t approve of censorship, but this is one of the cases where it’s probably best if they do. |

It wouldn't really make any difference to that scene anyway. It's psychologically devastating as it is. It's about the idea and the act, not what you see or don't see. |

I still wish a pan and scan DVD (at least) were available for Ghost Story. When I was a pre-teen (!), my friends and I would rent Ghost Story on VHS and marvel at Alice Krige in all her glory… Was very disappointed as an adult to find out I wouldn’t be bringing that bit of childhood joy with me into the 21st Century…
Anyway, good to know that there’s otherwise nothing actually cut from Joel Delaney. |

This BD version is,indeed, cut. The sex scene between Perry King and his girlfriend is missing all the "rough sex" part, which the girl alludes to when she says "You hurt me". Right after we see the street traffic through the apartment window, that's where the missing 30-40 seconds of nudity and sex were (you can check them in the VHS REALLY UNCUT version uploaded on YT (look for "The Possession of Joel Delaney Full Movie").
I wonder who those few seconds offended,50 years later,to prompt them to release a cut "uncut" version, especially of that part of the film. As for the last part boy's nudity, the widescreen version took care of what little more could be seen of his naked body in the open matte print.I guess it was never supposed to be there in the first place. P.S.. BTW,I checked the French VHS version uploaded on YT someone linked here before, and the sex scene... is also cut (not as much as in the BD version, but a part of Perry King's thrusting and thrashing is not there). And yes,you can see quite a bit more of the boy's nudity in the open matte frame. Last edited by George Hargensen; 01-19-2022 at 08:39 PM. |

More investigation on the shortened rough sex scene yielded this online print (a DVD rip, from the info that is given), that has the sex scene (at around 31:00,right after the gay night club scene where Joel finds her girlfriend drugged and with three other guys) intact, which means someone tampered with the print or master or whatever source was used for the Aussie BD.to excise those few seconds of rougher sex- Beats me. And I hate revisionism of any kind. A movie is an artwork belonging top the era it was (shot) made , should NOT be tampered with fifty years later by a dimwit who consider the scene too shocking (for the 2020s,honestly... what a joker!)
Check it here https://hdzer.com/watch/GOlpXkzd-the...treamtape.html Last minute update: Uploaded in HD (BD rip) in this site.... https://m4uhd.tv/watch-movie-the-pos...72-263697.html Sex scene censored. Evidently while mastering the BD someone saw fit to be judge and censor and cut part of the (honestly absolutely tame for these times) sex scene. Please,Imprint guys... either complain to whomever is responsible or just remove the UNCUT label from your BD edition. It is NOT uncut. And I hope when Paramount releases this in the U.S. or U.K. uses a better master (without constant colour temperature changes and grain spiking and disappearing as if ten sources have been used to create ONE master), and a complete one please (full sex scene, after all the movie is "Unrated" as per your definition, and R in the US and X in the UK: THANKS Last edited by George Hargensen; 01-21-2022 at 05:39 PM. |

Yeah, all of the above is a bit odd, especially the inconsistent color timing. That isn’t necessarily a deal breaker for me, nor is the censored sex scene, because it’s just a few additional seconds of thrusting (relatively tame by so many standards, then and today, so who knows who made those cuts and when and to satisfy whom). But I agree it’s misleading to bill it as ‘uncut’ — what do they imagine the ‘cut’ version looked like, I wonder?
My only question is, what accounts for the time discrepancy comparing that sex scene at 31:00 on the (UK?) DVD to the new blu ray, where that scene comes in beyond the 32-minute mark? Is it just a PAL speed-up on the DVD, or is there some other shot or two on the new blu ray not found on the UK DVD? |

Imprint licensed this through ITV Studios (who owns international rights as it was an ITC production) though ITV only possessed a SD print. They got a hold of an HD master provided by Paramount (opens and ends with their mountains) but the film element Paramount has is based on a cut made for the US market (while the UK DVD and other prints are almost uncut *aside a few shots in one certain scene).

They could have added some more info on this then, or including the whole scene in SD.
Like, I was surprised to see the complete Shirley MacLaine documentary "Kicking Up Her Heels" as an extry (I have the VHS of this) and am happy to have it, but then you think about the above and ... |
