In every mind there is a door that should never be opened.

Tom Wiztky (Kevin Bacon) is a normal, hard-working family man whose life is turned upside down when he is hypnotised at a neighbourhood party. He starts seeing things he cannot explain and the visions get more graphic and horrific. He then begins to realise that the visions are of an unsolved crime. When his nightmares start to come true, Tom has had enough, only to find that the more he wants out the more he wants to solve the crime.

Stir of Echoes is a highly atmospheric 1990s supernatural horror film adapted from a Richard Matheson novel.

We don’t know yet. It’s almost certainly going to be derived from the same master so it’ll be a question of which has the spottier compression, and Imprint is at a disadvantage there. I’m positive the German disc from Koch will still demolish them both but I grudgingly bought the Imprint solely because of its new, exclusive bonus features.

Left a bad taste in my mouth ordering The Haunting AND Breakdown only to learn Paramount released domestically later as well. Gonna hold off a good while until I’m comfortable knowing I won’t be tricked again by reading Stir of Echoes will be getting a 4K release.

Old transfer, looks pretty average. Haven’t compared it yet but I’d be surprised if it’s any better than the US release.

..the caps -a -holic comparisons show that the German disc from Koch is better than the Lionsgate...for example , the car number plate on the small truck on the street in one of the shots is more clearly legible on the Koch..

They just added this disc to caps-a-holic. Other than better compression, it's identical to the Lionsgate disc.

The German disc appears to have significantly more detail, but I think a lot of that comes down to sharpening rather than true detail. But it's very noticeable switching between the two, it's like putting your glasses on and then taking them off. Imprint/Lionsgate appear blurry by comparison, but there are artifacts on the German disc as a result of the sharpening.

Damn your right. Glad I checked this thread. Last week I was veeeerrry close to getting this to replace my lionsgate copy because I'm a fan of the movie. At $30 glad I held off.. the packaging is nice tho.

..at this point the German Koch disc is certainly preferable to some one who already owns the Lionsgate...everything appears more clearly defined on the Koch....its available as a digibook on amazon.de.....i will certainly be ordering it , however its a bit pricey at approximately 21 euros..

So would everyone here agree that the German disc is the one to get? Honestly I would rather get the AUS disc but it's just so blurry compared to the German. Im sure there is sharpening but is that all it is?

Those screencap comparisons on caps-o-holic seem to show that the only difference is one is sharpened, whereas the other is untouched.

This could use a whole new 4k hdr transfer. Colours are old drab transfer of yesteryears.
