My copy from Deep Discount arrived this past week. Haven't gone through it yet but it's a Blu-ray so it's already better than an ancient DVD

My money goes to the first out of the gate when it comes to catalog titles on Blu. Shout Factory has yet to announce Fire In the Sky; thankfully I own the Imprint release and don't have to sit around waiting.

I'd really like to hear some opinions on the transfer and extras for this.

Received my copy yesterday. I already have the nordic and german editions and bought this in the hopes of it having a better transfer.

Sadly it does not. The transfer looks identical to the german BD. At least I'm not able to spot any differences in any of the scenes I've checked. The detail level is rather poor, lots of film noise (spots and specks) and the whole film has this greenish washed out unnatural look to it. I much prefer the warmer image of the nordic release, which also has less noise.

That's not to say that the nordic edition is perfect, it has more black crush for instance, but it's a cleaner and warmer image, so I will be keeping it until we get a proper restoration of this film.

The image is absolutely an upgrade over the DVD, but if you already own the german release I see no reason to buy the Imprint edition unless you really want the new extras and the slip.

I'll see if I can upload a few screencaps later on.

Bleh...sounds like another What Lies Beneath or Dead Again. I'm sure it will be an upgrade from the ancient DVD, but not by much. Oh well, at least the extras sound good. My copy should arrive by Monday.

I watched The Gift BD from Imprint last night. It's pretty decent, except the odd soft shot, notably the titles at the beginning. As for the film, it's fantastic, mid period Raimi is so good. Hopefully Imprint or Paramount get their act together and A Simple Plan is forthcoming too.

Gave it a watch tonight...pretty much what I expected, quality-wise. A fairly mediocre, aged "high-def" transfer that was likely struck over a decade ago. Definitely better than the 20-year-old DVD, but not by a large margin. I enjoyed the commentary, which was informative and amusingly snarky at times (like when the historians start going off-topic to roast how terrible movie posters started to become in the 90s), but where's the interview with editor Bob Murawski that was originally announced?

Still, just to finally plug a major hole in my Sam Raimi collection, I'm happy to have this. I just hope that A Simple Plan will receive more TLC in the transfer department if it ever receives a proper release.
