When it comes to the next 2 films:
1) Since john connor knows his demise with a future arnold terminator, McG should not kill off john because now john can avoid or prepare from an early exit. John only knew this event because his future wife asked arnold terminator in T3: Rise Of The Machines.
2) Not care to see the children grown up taking over their father storyline, I thought this was about john's story on being humanity last hope.

So does that mean McG added arnold terminator under the pressure of terminator fans in this flic, it was cool how real arnold looked with his life-like appearance but it was handled out of nowhere. No backstory of how/why this terminator looked like a human & the deleted scene in T3 doesn't count. Wished an hour was added to flesh out some story.

It's not yet explained what the differences are between the T-800 and the T-850 but we can only speculate it was an upgraded model and slightly more deadly... at least it will be for Connor. The T-850 is the Grim Reaper Terminator.
I believe the 850 has more than one power cell as opposed to just one in the 800.

The original end of Salvation was supposed to have John Connor actually die. They were originally supposed to remove the skin from Connor's body and place it on Marcus. That way even though the real John Connor would be dead, the resistance wouldn't know it and thus would continue to be inspired by him though through in indirect way. When WB and McG found out the ending leaked, they went back and rewrote the ending to that the movie now has.

The reason why the 2 sequels of Terminator Salvation excite me soo much is because of the endless possibilities of change in the new future. The"future" we got in the first three films has changed. Conner said it himself. I am really interested to see the time travel plot develop. I wonder what changes will be made. Will skynet send 2 Terminators to kill Sarah. Who Knows. You think John has the upper hand because he knows about all the events that will unfold. I think Skynet also has a little more info. Man I can't wait. Time travel is always such an interesting paradox.

I also want to see the events we have heard about unfold on the screen. John giving Kyle the pic of his mother and so on.

I am super pumped. I honestly can't remember the last time I left the theater and was just ready to see the completion of the triology. I wished they filmed it LOTR style and we were getting a sequel in 8 months.

I have to post this pic (Big Thanks to DVDave). When I saw this on in a digital presentation it looked even more like the real picture from T1:

We have to remember that Connor's knows he must reprogram the T850 so his impending death is something he's going to have to risk. It makes you wonder why he didn't send information back for his mom or himself (like make sure you do this or don't do that). There's really no way to cover all your bases when your doing so many linked stories about time travel.

No, it's a monitor that Marcus is watching. It's a huge spoiler that it would be better you saw at the movies, but Kyle is 100% human (no worries)

I thought they did a excellent job with the CG face of Arnold and I was freaking out in the theatre when he appeared because I thought the cameo was going to be on a computer screen or just in the background with 1000s T-800 ready to go, not a fully active and skined T-800

And yes, I really enjoyed Terminator: Salvation, it was a great sci-fi action movie and I love all the ways they called back previous films via lines, objects (the jeep Kyle Reese and Marcus escape in looked like Sarah's jeep at the end of T1) or even situations like when Connor shoots the lava container then shoots the pipe which freezes the T-800 ala T2.

Ya, when I was watching it, I was like this is so familar. In the fact that whole sequence had a lot of call backs from T2 including the lava / cold combo, John Connor being draw towards a Terminator via a voice he knows (Sarah in T2, Reese in Salvation) and of course, the factory itself looks a lot like the facility in T2.

I'm trying to keep the spoiler filled discussions here.

Here's something McG had to say about the Humanity in the film:

Quote:
As hinted in the trailers, Sam Worthington's character will carry tons of importance in Terminator Salvation. Being half machine and half human, McG touches on the character's relevence to the story.

"You can have metal bits and pieces running through your body, but it doesn't make you any less of a man. And the question is, where do you become a machine and let go of your humanity? I did a lot of thinking about Christopher Reeve and the idea that if you lose control of your four limbs or body, does it make you less human? Of course, the answer is no; many would argue that Chris Reeve became more human [after his accident]. So where does the soul reside, where does humanity exist? Not in your arms, your legs or your torso. That's what the movie is all about—the nature of what it is that makes us human."

McG talking about the movie:

Quote:
Toughness was crucial for the movie because, as McG is fond of saying, Terminator Salvation is, at heart, a war film. Set several years following the events of Judgment Day—when the machines rose up against their creators and launched a nuclear attack that transformed the world into the kind of apocalyptic wasteland described in Cormac McCarthy's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Road (which McG cites as a major influence)—the movie follows the initial attempts of humanity's designated savior John Connor (Bale) to assert himself as the leader of the resistance movement. "I always like a becoming story, so I wanted to see the becoming of John Connor," McG says of the film's narrative arc. "When we meet him, he is not yet the leader of the resistance. You have to figure that when he first crawled out of the mountain—after the radioactivity had cleared to the degree where it was safe to populate the surface of the Earth—who would listen to him? I'm sure there would be other survivors who said, 'F*ck you, kid, get in line.' So he has to earn it every step of the way."
Quote:
Unlike the previous three Terminator installments, the plot of Salvation doesn't revolve around Skynet, the A.I.-empowered computer system that controls the machine army, sending one of its soldiers back in time in an attempt to change the future. Instead, all of the action occurs in the year 2018, before Skynet has developed the ability to time-travel. But that doesn't mean it doesn't have a few surprises up its sleeve. In a development that John's mother/mentor/drill sergeant Sarah Connor (who does not appear to have a role in the film, one of the few elements from Terminator 3 that carries over into this installment) never foresaw, Skynet has been experimenting on surviving humans in an attempt to fuse man and machine. The resistance rescues one of these "hybrids," Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), who resembles a normal person on the outside but underneath packs more iron than Iron Man. "The Marcus character is a real exploration of what it means to be human," McG explains.
Then the quote from the previous post
Quote:
In case you're wondering where the war is in this so-called war movie, don’t worry—McG promises that moviegoers will get plenty of bang for their buck. Rather than restrict the action to green-screen-lined soundstages, many of the film's biggest sequences were shot in the New Mexico desert and favor practical special effects—including real explosions and bullets—over CGI. "I wanted all of the action based in reality with a respect for physics and I wanted it to have a tactile reality for the audience. That's why we did so much practically, to really convey the difficulty of a world under duress. I didn't want clean, shiny Logan's Run Terminators. I wanted Children of Men/Mad Max Terminators."

The grimness and intensity of the film's world often carried over into real life, most notably when Bale was caught on tape yelling at the film's director of photography Shane Hurlbut for apparently interfering in an important shot. The actor's rant was later leaked to the public, leading to numerous news stories and even a few homemade remixes posted on YouTube. "That's the nature of a movie set," McG says now about the incident. "I've never made a movie where there weren't flare-ups. I encouraged an environment of intensity and hotheadedness led by me. I have a bad temper and am very passionate and want that level of intensity to show up onscreen at all times. And I want the best, most intense version of Bale, because that's what he's here to do. Besides, it was taken out of context and I think people understand that and it's largely come and gone without too much fuss. I do think it's a slap in the face to Hollywood that private material would be leaked. Movies are designed to only see the finished result."

As he puts the finishing touches on Terminator Salvation, McG is already looking ahead to the next chapter in what the studio hopes will be another trilogy. "I strongly suspect the next movie is going to take place in a [pre-Judgment Day] 2011," McG reveals. "John Connor is going to travel back in time and he's going to have to galvanize the militaries of the world for an impending Skynet invasion. They've figured out time travel to the degree where they can send more than one naked entity. So you're going to have hunter killers and transports and harvesters and everything arriving in our time and Connor fighting back with conventional military warfare, which I think is going to be ****ing awesome. I also think he's going to meet a scientist that's going to look a lot like present-day Robert Patrick [who famously played the T-1000 in Terminator 2], talking about stem-cell research and how we can all live as idealized, younger versions of ourselves."

besides the pre-judgement day 2011, the more i hear this dude talk the more i like him
judging by the first film (imo) he's showed us that he knows what he's doing with this series, and as long as he steers clear of the 2011 thing, i trust him with the franchise

i would want the 5th one to focus on the things mentioned by him in a quote earlier in the thread, and john connors structuring of the resistance and building up of it

and the 6th to focus on winning the war and sending the reprogrammed terminator and kyle reese back to 1984.

i think kyle reese disappearing to go into the past and then showing a close up of connors face for a few seconds, showing him thinking about and knowing what is going to happen in the past now that his friend has been sent back, and then cut to credits would be the perfect ending to the final movie.
of course accompanied by a awesome score in the background

Can someone explain to me how all the films fit? Time travel?

I thought it all went in order?

I thought Terminator salvation picked up where T3 left off (obviously a few years later)
