My Panasonic plasma has a dark setting under Picture > Advanced > Black Level Control. You might try that too.

No way i'm getting this with that cheap looking horrible new artwork...they could have at least given us a nice slipcover with the original white design.

Oh well, hanging on to my R2 DVD boxset until a respectable copy of this classic ever comes out on Blu-Ray.

So is there an agreement that the HK bluray version from AIS is equal in terms of image and sound to the TT? I'd rather get the cheaper HK version if that's the case.

There is now a comparison between the HK and DE Blu-rays of this film on caps-a-holic:

http://www.caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergl...D=2267#auswahl

The HK is the same as the TT, whilst the DE has the proper colour space (someone at "3L Home Entertainment" seems to know what they're doing). If you adjust your colour space for the TT version, you'll achieve the same image as the DE version.

Do you happen to know if the DE version has english subtitles?

Looks like it's German subs only I'm afraid. If you go to the caps-a-holic comparison ruffhux and scroll down you can see an image of the BD Info scan on both discs being compared. This is actually pretty useful for checking on subtitle or aother details like audio tracks and whatnot so long as caps-a-holic features the disc on the site.

So, I watched this after having the Empire DVD for over a decade, and let me tell you, this version feels 100X better than that DVD.

It felt so good throwing away that DVD and watching it via the Twilight Time.

Watched this again recently after three years. I know people complained about it, but as someone who watched the New Yorker DVD for a decade this release was somewhat of a revelation. I guess after that it, was almost impossible to be worse.

I'm so happy to own this imperfections and all as the DVD was easily in my top 10 worst looking DVDs I owned.

Recently watched Sword of Desperation and greatly enjoyed it. So it motivated me to go back and watch again The Hidden Blade and Twilight Samurai. Like you, am very glad that I got this blu ray of The Twilight Samurai. The image quality did not hinder enjoyment of this film.

All excellent films. I do wish Love & Honor had gotten a Blu-ray. It looked like Funimation was going to release it at one point, but for whatever reason it didn't happen.

It would be great if this Trilogy was picked up and remastered.

If you're talking about the TT version it sold out long time ago. Lot of copies on Ebay, just at high prices.

It's such an incredible movie and the fact that it's so hard to get is made even worse by the fact that it's not available digitally either. This deserves to be seen by more people.

This and "When The Last Sword Is Drawn" are two films that I need to have in my collection, but neither are readily available. Now, WTLSID is a little more understandable. It hasn't near the acclaim that Twilight Samurai has. One of these boutique companies needs to release these films in 4K, since like, that's the thing now, man.

I love When the Last Sword is Drawn. It's with Shochiku and should be available to license if someone is willing to accept all the terms set up by Shochiku as well as the price.

Man I haven't seen it in years, but it certainly left an impression, especially with Joe Hisaishi scoring the film.

Yeah, it's been awhile for me too, but I remember really enjoying it. I think I last watched it in 2007 or so. I've only seen it twice, but it's a good one.
