Seems unlikely, since at one point she said she'd never even watched Downton Abbey:

Noticed this difference myself. I chalked it up to it being a ‘movie’ instead of a Christmas episode so likely then trying to differentiate the sound a bit.

Heck, a lot of actors don't like watching themselves at all. Look at Adam Driver, for instance. Plus, I somehow doubt that Dame Maggie really has that much free time to spend slouched on the couch, watching TV.

Are you watching the US Bluray or DVD's by any chance? If so you are watching them at the wrong framerate as they are slowed down so you will be used to hearing their voices at a lower pitch. Not sure about the broadcast versions but they may be wrong too when shown in the US as Downton Abbey the TV series was filmed and broadcast in the UK at 25fps.

The movie is correct. The US releases are wrong (Apart from S1, and some early releases of S2 on bluray which were at the correct framerate)

For further information, see my post here.

For those interested, the UK BD is a basic case, no slip, no digital code, no nothing but the disc and cover. A rather boring release, especially as it is the offering in the country this show is from. I hope we get a steelbook later and 4K.

Had a copy with a slipcover in my hands earlier in HMV. So there’s definitely slips out there, even if it sounds like they’re scarce depending on retailer?

I cannot believe they didn’t release a 4K UHD disc for this. It was a huge hit in both the US and U.K.

That is frustrating. That they would even skimp on a slip depending where one orders from.

This is a very underwhelming release given the success. I expected a steelbook at least with 4K. Maybe it is a conscious decision to get us to double dip later?

If it was that, wouldn't they all have sounded wrong? This was just a few people. I saw the UK TV versions, I would never watch the bastardized PBS cuts because they were heavily edited for time and had fewer episodes due to all the content the remove... but to me the US BD didn't sound any different than that (I got the Complete Collection, maybe those discs were fixed?).

The US BDs all sound completely fine. There is no “pitch” issue. They seem like the perfect speed and all seasons sound alike.

A little update on the cases. We sent the German version to my Mother-in-law and it has the cover printed both sides and a leaflet for the cocktail book. So even the German version has been given more attention than the UK version.

The 4K version of the movie dropped today to $9.99 on iTunes.
I usually buy discs but streaming is the only way to get it in 4K.
This is nothing new, but when it dropped to $14.99 on iTunes a few months ago I bought it, and haven't yet watched it. I saw it in the cinema though.
Last Black Friday all the discs I bought but hadn't yet watched dropped to record lows, and I swore I would only buy movies on Black Friday from now on. Look how long that lasted

Amazon today wants $95 for the "deluxe edition" which doesn't even have UHD 4k?? I don't think so.

Part of the fun is seeing the details of the clothes, house, and props!

Since PBS is who aired the cut versions and then released the original sets, they had to specify that it was the original version... but since NBC's doing it now, they probably don't think they have to specify since they never released a cut version.

Though it's odd that they didn't throw the movie in with it.

and the detail was great and the HDR astounding (at least seen in Dolby Cinema), yet again another one of the relatively fewer true 4k+HDR shot and finished films that only gets a freaking bluray! All the films with the best scenery and actually finished in 4k, etc. end up with crappy cheap blu-ray dumps, it's a ridiculus way to sell the format.

The packaging is ****ing awful. Discs stacked upon each other, some impossible to remove off the spindles. A few discs arrived scratched.

I hate Amazon, but at least Amazon will send you the new one before you have to ship the other back, so I'd be able to mix and match to get all non scratched discs. I'm betting I'm going to be in an endless return loop with Target.

I already have the first boxed set. What's new with the deluxe boxed set?
