UPDATE: ok read the synopsis for Martyrs on imdb and this is not my kind of movie. More like "Torture Porn" like Hostel. I prefer my horror movies to be suspenseful and avoid the slasher movies as well. But different tastes for everyone.
Martyrs is not torture porn. It has torture in it (one scene really) but this isn't the Saw sequels. The movie is beyond that. This is a serious and well made movie. The first two thirds of the film is a bit of a mystery movie as well. But of course that still doesn't mean it's everybody's cup of tea.

Read the review here on Blu-ray.com, and you'll see it's not torture porn. It's nothing like Saw or Hostel at all!!!

This is a serious and very, very dark movie... and it WILL shock you.

And the Brits are lucky they're getting a blu-ray version of this movie!

If it's announced, buy the Exorcist and Poltergeist.

Updated this list, removed Shutter, The Maid , demoted The 2 Ju-On's, I saw the original and some other japanese horror movies, they are a joke and waste of film, nice acting but boring scripts with 1 min of horror.

Added: Halloween 1, Nightmare on Elm Street 1, Children of the Corn and the Company of Wolves?!

Anyone know other great Werewolf movies besides pre 1970 's werewolf movies and an american werewolf in london/paris, (London was great). How about Night of the Werewolf (1981)? Wolfen? Dog Soldiers was good too.

Nice link with horror trailers:

If you liked Return of the Living Dead (on your list), you'll probably enjoy...
Night of the Creeps
Re-Animator
Cemetery Man
Dead Alive

For slashers that rely more on suspense than gore...
Ils (Them)

Old school slashers..
Black Christmas (1974)
My Bloody Valentine
The Burning
Alice Sweet Alice
Bloody Reunion (Korean homage to 80s slashers)

Replace Quarantine with [REC] (scarier, better makeup effects, better acting), now that its getting a DVD release in July.

The Descent
Cujo
The Shining
High Tension
Ils
Child's Play
The Eye (Chinese version)
Candyman

Night of the creeps, God I hated this movie, if it's the one with the alien worms going from to person, it even spawned 10 wanna be films with the same crud.

I replaced Quarentine with Rec, Amazon still doesnt have the english dvd picture.

Another classic is Hell Night, anyone remember that, Ill watch it again seee how scary it actually was, saw it at like 8 scared the crap outta me.

Thx for the suggestions, ill have to check them all out.

BTW, I didnt like any of the latest zombie movies, something about them that just wasnt scary, an I dont like Dawn of the Dead that much, I dont like the make up , zombies look too fake and greyish, Day of the Dead is frigging creepy though.

Anyone seen and of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequels or Return of the Living Dead and Howling sequels? Any worth watching?

Just spent 2 hours watching this movie, and I would like to spend them over and over again... Loved the movie! It didn't scare me, but it really entertained me! It's just so evil and nasty and sexy and perverse and so wrong... in a good way!

It made me think of both Poltergeist and The Exorcist, just more vile and nasty.

Let's hope this grizzly goodie comes to Blu-ray, and thanks for the tip Pro-B!!

I removed Session 9 from the list, I had added it because a lot of people were hyping it everywhere, worst horror movie I've ever seen in my life, it should not be labeled as horror, as a mystery/crime scene type it's decent.

There was no horror in it, 4 painters end up getting killed by their boss in the last 5mins, if you decide to watch it, forward it to the last 5 minutes.

Replaced it with Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978).

YES!!!! Finally someone other than me that was disapointed by this. It was plain and simple utterly boring!

And the '78 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a true classic. A must for any horror-fan.

MY GOD! I don't know if I can take any more of your dismissing of great horror films! At least you liked Day. As for sequels, don't get anything past part 2 on Texas and Return. However, Return of the Living Dead Part 2 is pretty campy. Skip the Howling sequels altogether.

There actually is a horror movie starring Ron Jememy. It called the One-Eyed-Monster. It's a movie about an alien possessing Ron Jeremy's penis and attacking people. And no, I'm not kidding.
