It turns out that Nightmare Alley will be the first film under the HBO/Hulu deal.

Well, yeah, The King's Man is certainly a flop.

As Geoffy and I have already discussed, the discs are already pressed this close to the scheduled release.

I can't speak for America, but The Last Duel went to streaming on Disney+ in Australia at the same time it was released on Blu. Ditto for The Night House. Encanto is already on D+ in Australia before the Blu release. Even cancelled cinema release movies like the Pixar movies are coming to disc. Everybody can chill

This got released in cinemas on one of the worst possible dates. They made it compete against Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Matrix Resurrections, and Sing 2. Plus it got delayed a bunch of times which definitely didn’t help either.

I enjoyed the movie quite a bit though. Hopefully the 4K disc will get released. It’d be a Day 1 for me.

The US does not have a Star or HotStar option, we have Hulu. But also, in the US, theatrically released 20th Century & Searchlight films are contracted to HBO and by extension HBO Max. The Last Duel was released on DVD, BD, 4K UHD, and streaming on HBO Max on the same day.

Nightmare Alley and The King’s Man are the first under a new deal where they will be available to stream on HBO Max and Hulu on the same day. I’m sure Hulu will get the 4K versions while HBO Max has the HD. Disney has a similar deal to share PG-13 and under rated 20th Century & Searchlight films between HBO/HBO Max and Disney+. Ron’s Gone Wrong is the first with Free Guy being second.

We are still getting physical discs though because Disney is not going to ignore a revenue stream that still is flowing.

As far as I know Hulu doesn’t support Dolby Vision so it’ll be HDR10 and that’s if 20th Century Films provides a 4K master with HDR. It’ll also be on HBO Max in HD and DD 5.1 on the 18th. Ron’s Gone Wrong is HD/DD 5.1 on HBO Max and 4K DV/Dolby Atmos on Disney+ but we won’t know if Hulu gets the 4K over HBO Max until Nightmare Alley releases on February 1st.

And yes, this and Nightmare Alley will be on Hulu & HBO Max before their physical releases.

HBO Max only had their Same Day Premiere movies available in 4K Dolby Vision...everything else (including their Max Original series) are in 1080p SDR

*HBO Max does have a few rare older catalog titles in 4K DV- Matrix Trilogy and Wonder Woman (2017)

There's supposed to be another sequel to the original two; however, the general failure of this movie may end up canceling that. Production is/was expected to start in a year or so.

I wouldn’t say it’s strictly true that the performance of this prequel will affect any plans for the next Eggsy and Harry movie. The box office means we certainly won’t get any direct sequel to The King’s Man as promised in the credits tease, but the Eggsy and Harry Kingsman movies still made big bucks at the box office in the past - this just shows that they’re the big draw of this series, not the brand name.

Vaughn has said he has the ability to set up the film at another studio if Disney isn’t interested. I find it hard to believe that all of the big players will pass on it given that The Golden Circle made over $400M.

Matthew Vaughn has control over the franchise thru Marv Studios and TSG Entertainment helped provide funding. 20th Century Studios was only a distributor. If Disney decides not to continue distributing the films, Marv can move it to another distributor. The only caveat is if Vaughn runs out of money as he self-finances most of his films. Kick-Ass 2 moved to Universal who agreed to finance that film when Vaughn did not have enough funds to do so.

Vaughn has said that if the fans demand it, we will get follow-ups to The King’s Man and Golden Circle. He is measuring by demand and not box office take.

it would be weird for them NOT to have Kingsman 3 after what the director said in December

How many times have directors and actors said that a movie is "going to happen by [date]", and they turn out to be full of shit? How many times have fans fallen for it? Don't believe any movie is truly happening until you see a closeup of the clapboard on the first day of principal photography. Money talks, and the failure of The King's Man will not be ignored, no matter how successful the previous two movies were.
