Isn't this already running on the BBC? Or is that a different show altogether? Or is my misspent youth affecting my higher brain function again?

I loved the merlin mini series they did. With Sam Neill as Merlin. I own it on DVD.

Interested to see this show, but had never heard of it until just now

It's already showing in Australia. And from what I saw it pretty much looks like a kids afternoon show.

I rarely watching TV anymore, but I'd just finished reading Camelot 3000, so your thread piqued my interested. However, the site says it's only a 13-episode series, so it's only running for the summer. And after watching a couple of previews, RiseDarthVader is right; it looks underwhelming.

I think/hope I still have my original comics put away. I may have to pull them out and look them over. Thanks for the reminder. From what I remember, this could be turned into a very good mini-series. Anybody at SyFy() listening?

Actualy, I like it, been watching it since the first episode. Ok so it's not the greatest drama ever with the most incredible acting in history but it as some nice twist.

It's not bad, but I hate it when productions totally dismiss the canon of the subject matter. Merlin was an "old" man by the time King Arthur was born. Now everyone in the Arthurian court are kids and know each other. You want to create something original, do it, you want to make something existing, stay within the rules of the cannon.

Obviously Merlin was a kid at one time, so you tell those stories, but then don't add all the other people like Arthur and Lancelot and..... who he meets when he is older.

This show is pretty awful imho. There is a specific type of acting required for a medieval style series (quite a difficult feat I might). These actors don't pull it off, especially the guy who plays Arthur.

Anyone else watching this show? Really loving it and can't wait for the 4th season to start. Really hope that Arthur finds out about Merlin soon so we can start exploring that part of there friendship. So happy it's already been renewed for a 5th season. Just hope we get more Lancelot and Gwaine.

'Merlin' renewed for fifth series

Quote:
Merlin has been renewed for a fifth series by the BBC, the show's executive producers have confirmed.

Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy made the announcement at the 2011 Comic-Con in San Diego, as part of the event's Merlin panel.

Capps suggested that the commission will allow the show's writing team more "creative space" and promised that future episodes will feature a greater focus on "slow-burn" character arcs.

The fourth series of Merlin is currently filming in Wales and France. Nathaniel Parker will join the regular cast as Agravaine, the uncle of Arthur (Bradley James), while Whitechapel's Phil Davis and former Spooks star Gemma Jones have also signed up for guest roles.

Johnny Capps previously revealed that that the fourth series will open with a two-part adventure telling "the story of Morgana's revenge".

"We left Morgana (Katie McGrath) in a terrible state at the end of the last series," he said. "She does quite an extreme thing [in series four], and it's the question of whether Arthur and Merlin (Colin Morgan) and the knights will be able to defeat her."
