Now that we've had an entire series of movies and a reboot that primarily take their inspiration from the brief and ultimately incidental cutscenes from the games, I hope someone, some day, makes a movie that is based on the atmosphere, pacing, and tone of the actual games themselves.

Depends on how much of a tolerance you have for a film with an obvious hard-on for John Carpenter, but with very little channelling going on.

Canceled my pre-order for the Steel, thought the price would drop a bit more and it didn't, $40! No, I don't think so. Will pick this up next Black Friday when it's $9.99, the hard truth is this film is not better than a rental to me, Paul Anderson's series walks all over this in the re-watchable category. Watching this did make me dig out my Playstation game discs to play through the old trilogy again, gotta love the fact the PS3 plays those discs!

And no, this is not a blind buy, unless you have money burning a whole in your pocket.

Received my steelbook from Bullmoose yesterday packaged in a cardboard mailer. Pristine! Nice steel. Excited to watch it again later this week. But first...Scream (2022) tonight.

Oof, pacing? Absolutely not haha. That's where the short cutscenes are more valuable. Pacing in most video games will never work in a live action movie. Maybe a long form, faithful TV show that has a death trap puzzle per episode, that may be cool!

The closest we can hope for pacing synergy would be the Resident Evil 3 Remake. I think that's the only RE game that strikes the perfect balance of movie pacing that would actually translate well into live action, as a chase/action horror movie. And sure enough that was the main complaint about it, that it was "too short" or "too fast paced" or "cut up". Just like with the new movie meshing together parts of 1 and 2, you kind of have to have it that way, piece together the best, most interesting parts and form that 2 hour story, because a movie can't be paced like a video game.

Otherwise I'd say the new movie does have the original atmosphere and tone. Not perfectly of course, It could have been much better, but it's definitely there! That's really what I like most about the new movie. Sure it's not all wandering and puzzle solving with moody music, but we can't expect it to be. As long as there is some of that in there, and there is, I'm good.

I canceled mine for now too. I really want to see it but a $17+ difference between versions is crazy. I suppose I could have gone with Best Buy and have a 45 day window but I didn’t want to risk it with the several other releases this week.

Same here. Really nice looking steel but not for that price.

This was surprisingly decent yet I still felt that it had more potential than it actually reached. Atmosphere, music, visual aesthetic, horror, all actually solid. It definitely had John Carpenter inspirations.

I just feel like it coulda been taken to the next level and the resources were there on screen. Roberts just didn't kick it enough into overdrive.

I also thought Leon Kennedy was an awful character.

Overall, I dug it for what it was and only disappointed in not striving for what it coulda been.

Me five. I canceled the steelbook due to price, but it does look very nice. Looking forward to receiving the standard edition today.

Anyone saying this looks like a cheap DTV movie is out of their mind. This movie has beautiful visuals and cinematography.

Why did they Photoshop the half of the gun out of the guy's hands on the cover?

I think they could've left the entire mansion subplot on the cutting room floor. It didn't add anything of importance to the movie's narrative, and the movie would've been better off at a tidy 80-85 minutes in length.

4K transfer was great. I really enjoy this film, especially its soundtrack. As a diehard fan of the OG games, it was fun to catch all the little details.

The first act and mansion bits with Chris were my favorite parts.
