What exactly does he mean when he mentions Ohio? I thought it was just another USA state, but this was before the USA declared its independence from Great Britain (now part of the United Kingdom).

FYI, the territory of Ohio only became a British colonial possession after the French and Indian War. So he could have been referring to Ohio pre-1754, when it was in the hands of the French. Also, what the French referred to as the "Ohio Valley" was not just the state of Ohio but also included parts of W. Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Indiana. All of this territory was then ceded to the British after they defeated France.
