Oh man, thanks for letting me know. That was one of the weakest uses of a 3D camera I've seen in awhile then. To have a stereo 3D camera rig, and then dial everything down to near 2D levels is such a waste of 3D. That movie could've been something in stronger 3D.

Sorry for necroposting, but this one does not work on my Sony BDP-S6700. Is that a common problem?

I see the warnings but when it has to go to the menu it just freezes up and shuts down

That's good. How did you like The Darkest Hour and the 3D?

I haven't watched this one since I first bought it many years ago. The 3D was okay, low medium, sometimes milder 3D, sometimes medium layering. Nothing amazing. A sort of interesting film, with invisible enemies. I'll get around to rewatching it in 3D one of these years.

Clever use of Never.

I'd already seen it flat and liked it (7/10) when it first came out some 10 years ago and revisited yesterday in 3D. The 3rd dimension really added to the effects. 7.5/10

Need to rewatch this but i always found the 3D to be a bit too conservative for my liking. The FX with the aliens and their particles etc were well done in 3D though but the rest of it seemed fairly tame.

Probably due a rewatch. The movie is weird, it feels like the start of a series or something and doesn't really wrap up/ resolve anything at the end. It just kind of stops.

Being late to the party I need to actually watch this, as I now own the 3d blu from a combo deal. Frankly I don't even remember it being out theatrically.

Just so long as it was better than the director's prior effort Wanted, though if Wanted had been in 3D it would have beaten Avatar to the punch as everyone else in the theater was only there for 2 reasons and if they had been 3D...

On that note, is there anything similarly scandalous in this one that I should be on the lookout for?

Wanted was Directed by Timur Bekmambetov

The Darkest Hour was Directed by Chris Gorak (Bekmambetov was only a producer).

I'll have to see if his style was present in the film despite this. I've seen that the producers reportedly made other films despite not directing it, for example: TASM2, as they overruled their director at many a turn.

It's still unfortunate that his Wanted wasn't in 3D as it had, oh, 60% or so of what made Beowulf 3D so memorable.

I purchased the UK version about 2 years ago...have not opened it to view it yet...I'm a little confused with the postings here along with the information on this site and others...is the one that I have from the UK (just noticed there are 2 3d versions available) region A or not? It kinda seems like a riddle within an Enigma...it states that the Bluray is region-free (A and B) but no mention of the 3D...what gives? Please Help?

My understanding was that this was region locked everywhere, but I see on dvdcompare that the UK and Scandinavian editions are coded for A and B regions, with only the US edition locked to Region A. There's no info on any other versions.

This came out at a time when Fox titles were often locked, and sometimes inconsistently (e.g. only one disc out of a 2 disc set) so if anyone can confirm the region status I will update the thread.

Quick update: Unable to find it within my collection so I can now only assume that I was going to purchase but decided at the last minute not to due to not really knowing for sure about the region code of the 3D...but my question still remains the same...is the UK 3D Bluray region-free or not?... Looking to make a purchase today once I get the answer?.. Please Help? Complicating things even more there are 2 3D versions available in the UK...are they both region-free?...there is no word on the 3D viewing just the 2D being region-free.

The only difference between the UK versions is that one includes a DVD but I can't help with the region coding, it will be a month before I can access most of my collection as it's all still in boxes.

The version with the dvd and digital copy has a region A and B on the back. Can't confirm about the release without the dvd included.

I rewatched this and the 3D is a lot better than I recall it being, pretty nice 3D photography. I do love the shots of deserted Moscow. It did feel weird watching this movie with what's going on in the world now.

Not too bad of a movie, a little cliche and corny at times but enjoyable. 3D and use of surrounds was pretty good.

just bought and watched this. Was surprised there were a lot of people I knew in it. Pretty much all the main cast. I agree with the initial review. However I did enjoy the design of the aliens - the effects with the disintegrations were pretty cool.
