Reavon's new UBR-X110 is a very nice and reasonably priced Universal disc player!

Reavon was kind to us and allocated the first shipment to our company.

Reavon $100 price increase because of inflation and DVD-Audio feature added to all players with the latest firmware update.

It was mentioned in the Sound and Vision magazine review that the UBR-X200 and UBR-X100 build quality lags that of other flagship players. Also the review mentions that the UBR-X100 does not support SACD’s and DVD-Audio discs, that feature is exclusive to the UBR-X200. Someone also mentioned that the UBR-X110 lacks SACD and DVD-Audio support. However now I am seeing there was a firmware update to the UBR-X100 that allows it to play DVD-Audio discs but no SACD support. The latest specs for the UBR-X110 now shows both SACD and DVD-Audio support. Now Reavon needs to offer a HDR10+ firmware update.

Inflation is really hitting the high-end market.

The Reavon UBR-X100 list price is now $899 (use to cost $799).
The Reavon UBR-X110 list price is $999
The Reavon UBR-X200 list price is $1,799 (use to cost $1,699).

The Reavon UBR-X200 would be ideal for the main home theater room for those that do not own the reference year 2016 OPPO UDP-203 for $549. The Sony UBP-X800M2 that plays SACD’s and DVD-AUDIO discs looks like an attractive player for around $298 for each additional TV’s in one’s home or condo. The Reavon UBR-X110 is also a decent player that plays SACD’s and DVD-Audio discs but no analog audio outputs. Personally I would not even consider getting the UBR-100 that lacks SACD capability. For only $100 more one can get the UBR-X110.

But we sure are seeing a lot of inflation. The UBR-X200 for $1,799 is not as good as the OPPO UDP-203 that use to sell for $549. Glad to see there is 3 choices of Reavon Blu-ray players now.

All 3 Reavon players offer a source direct feature. But I hope a HDR10+ firmware update is in the works for all 3 players, since OPPO and Panasonic offer HDR10+. The OPPO UDP-203 that use to cost $549 has HDR10+, 1GB of internal persistent storage, and OPPO has more input and output jacks when compared to the Reavon UBR-X200 for $1,799. People also need to keep in mind, OPPO Digital is out of the consumer home electronics business and they are most likely not coming back. Also if OPPO was to release a replacement to the OPPO UDP-203, instead of costing $549 it would most likely cost a minimum of $799 because of inflation. When and if the OPPO players start breaking and when they cannot be repaired any longer, some consumers will spend the money for the Reavon UBR-X200 for $1,799. However, if one does not need analog audio outputs with RS-232 they can save $800 and buy the Reavon UBR-X110 for $999. But some people need analog audio outputs for various things like a zone 2 audio setup. Maybe a second generation Reavon player one day in the future might actually beat the OPPO player when it comes to performance, the first generation Reavon players are not able to do that since they do not have all the features of the OPPO players.

Reavon needs to come out with a firmware update that offers HDR10+ and offering tone mapping would be ideal with a firmware update. This would make their player lineup more attractive. Also Reavon should consider discontinuing the UBR-X100 for $899. If someone is going to spend around $1,000 or $1,800 on a Blu-ray player they are going to want to at the very minimum buy the UBR-X110 for $100 more that offers SACD support. It would also make things easier on the customer if there was 2 Reavon players instead of 3. If the UBR-X100 went out of production and Reavon only marketed the UBR-X110 and UBR-X200 then they could say all their players support SACD and DVD-Audio and the only difference between the players is if one wants analog audio outputs with RS-232 for a additional $800. Offering the UBR-X100 with no SACD support for $899 is not logical. All Sony 4K Blu-ray players even the entry level model for $150 to $199 offers SACD support.

That is true. However just to clarity the Reavon players like all Blu-ray players are region locked. That means when buying a Reavon player in North America they are all region A and region 1 locked. Buying a Reavon player in Europe means region B and region 2 locked. The Blu-ray Disc Association licensing agreements do not allow for any player coming off the assembly line to have the region free feature.

Now there are some third party companies that do not make Blu-ray players that offer region free and region selectable players with the third party company internally modifying the Blu-ray player to be region free or region selectable (which is currently legal to sell by the third party company and legal for consumers to own). While I never modified my OPPO players to be region free or region selectable, it is very well known that the OPPO players were the easiest players to modify to be region selectable with both internal and external upgrade kits that just plug in with no soldering required.

**** As far as I am aware there is no third party company offering the Reavon players with a region free or region selectable feature, at least not yet ****

I would be curious if the internals are the same as the X100 which I purchased. It can't hold a candle though to the UB9000 or Oppo 203. I do hope they get better with each player like Oppo did.

Will you be doing a review on the 110 ? I'm interested but some folks here keep saying stay away . I'm for a new player with a new interface then buying used with a 10 year old looking menu . But I'm not so crazy that the prices are higher . We know that is a "just because everyone can say that now " at least for the most part !

All Reavon disc players have the source direct mode, it's called “Auto resolution” in the video settings menu that allows the native resolution of the content to passthrough without upscaling.

Auto resolution just handshakes with the display so that the player automatically outputs 4K for 4K displays and 1080P for 1080P displays. Or 1080i, 720P, 480P, or 480i depending on how old ones display is. However just like the OPPO players there is a source direct feature in the menu called "source direct" that outputs the native resolution on the disc. USA DVD is always outputs as 480i in source direct mode (Also PAL DVD at 576i is supported) , and 4K Blu-ray is outputted at 4K, or 1080P, 1080i, 720P, 480P, or 480i depending on the native content resolution on the disc (then the display or A/V receiver when needed upscales the image to the native resolution of the display).

However the latest manual for the UBR-X100/UBR-X110/UBR-X200 that was published on 3-1-2022 only mentions the source direct feature on the UBR-X100 and UBR-X200. That must be a misprint in the manual since the UBR-X110 should also offer that feature.

There was a prior firmware update on the UBR-X100 that offers DVD-Audio support (But since the UBR-X100 cannot do DSD it is not possible to offer a SACD firmware update for that model). All 3 players support pure audio mode. The firmware update to offer SACD support on the UBR-X110 came out on 3-1-2022.

Samsung, OPPO, and Panasonic offer HDR10+. If Reavon did add HDR10+ they would start taking business away from Panasonic. If Reavon offers tone mapping and HDR10+ with a firmware update, then both videophiles and audiophiles are going to consider the Reavon players.

If Reavon in the next 3 years or so comes out with a second generation player with 4GB of internal memory for persistent storage, 3 USB 3.0 jacks (two in the rear and one in the front), 10,000Mbps or 1,000Mbps ethernet, IR in, and all the analog audio outputs on the OPPO UDP-203 then Reavon could become the ultimate reference player one day. They could skip the HDMI input that OPPO has since that was not used by most people since people prefer using their A/V receiver for HDMI switching.

Blu-ray fans are excited to see 3 new players from Reavon and new firmware updates. People now need to see HDR10+ and tone mapping and people will stop complaining about the price of Reavon, since they will realize Reavon is offering quality support like OPPO Digital INC offered for their players.

1. Panasonic won't be losing any business as the UB820 is way cheaper than this overpriced Reavon. However, Panasonic will lose if they completely stopped producing the players.

2. Not many care about HDR10+.

3. This shouldn't concern you are I believe you still have a 1080p TV.

Hi Robert Zohn and everyone!

Reavon's addition of SACD to their new X110 is very cool! SACD/DSD is such an important and beautiful stereo and multichannel audio experience. More capability for the dollar.

Speaking of SACD/DSD, I am loving my Marantz flagship SA-10 SACD/CD player/DAC -- beautiful and one of the very best players ever! Also still enjoying my Panasonic UB9000 4K UHD Blu-ray player with AudioQuest Carbon 48 HDMI cable -- awesome looking/sounding combo!

I didn't know HDTV1080P working in electronics or film/TV industry. That's interesting, what does he do?

By his own admission he does not yet have a 4K display.
