Default Why did you come to Blu-ray.com?

This question is how how and why did everybody come to this website? I personally came here originally thinking this was the "official Blu-Ray website" but then I ended up finding out this was a forum. I've been reading this website before the launch of the PS3 and was doing research on Blu-Ray and wanted it to know what it was all about. After reading things on both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray I thought the obvious choice people would make would be Blu-Ray. The biggest thing that drew me to Blu-Ray was the heavy Studio support of at the time was 7 out of the 8 major studios supported Blu-Ray. While HD-DVD just had one exclusive studio in Universal Studios I couldn't help to think that they were destined to fail.

Now with the defection of Paramount/Dreamworks they have a little more time before I think the eventual will happen and Blu-Ray will reign supreme. I knew HD-DVD was cheaper but that didn't even make a dent in my thoughts of what format I was going to choose. Size of the disc I knew was going to be important and the fact the biggest disc for Blu-Ray is 50GB vs. 30GB max of HD-DVD I knew HD-DVD was less superior. I ended up with a PS3 because I am also a gamer but I love movies as well, and I have always been a Playstation fan so it was a really easy choice with all of those facts for me to choose Blu-Ray. I know alot of you out there probably chose Blu-Ray for the same reasons as I did and I am very glad that I did go Blu-Ray and found Blu-Ray.com! A big thank you goes out to everybody from this forum for educating people to make an educated decision on this ridiculous format war.

Okay, now that the jokesters have started their comments. The honest reason I came here was because I typed in what I was looking for..."blu-ray" then added the ".com" on the end of it. I liked what I saw when I got here, started lurking in the background for a while reading information, then joined a little while ago.

I found this site the same way, I was looking for information on HD-DVD and Blu-ray. I read the information from several different site and quickly make the decision that Blu-ray was the way to go. Mostly it was the 30 Gb to 50 Gb , the studio support and the fact that Blu-ray was going to have RW drives for PC's
I feel that HD DVD is a modern Betamax, People used to say you don't need a tape that big.

It's nice coming to a forum that (for the most part) does not degenerate into a BD vs HD pissing match. I like being able to find out BD info without have to justify my PS3 purchase - even if it was made after the paramount decision

Because this site is the true source of all thing Blu, and there are plenty of other subjects that anyone can freely discuss with everyone else.

I've been visiting this forum since the fall of 2004 and truly don't know why I didn't register as a user until January of this year. I guess I was super lazy. Anyway, it's a moot point now.

Came here to get info that wasnt tainted by those who have a hiden agenda.
From here i have gained alot of information, discussed said information with like minded people, and had a great time with some of the more funny threads as well.

Also having insiders present has made info more credible, and they dont spend there whole time talking about HD-DVD, they dont feel threatened, but just give us the Blu info and for that this is the best place to come.

Great site.

Well I was about to get a PS3 and had heard about both high-definition discs. I looked around on both blu-ray.com and hd-dvd.com but then realised the huge difference in number of members and threads It's also a great place to make friends, swap Network ID's and see whats coming out soon on blu-ray.

You need to reevaluate that a bit.
Sony invented betamax, it was the superior product at the time, and it still lost to VHS on the consumer's front because it had less recording capability.
Knock on wood right now!!!

I came here to get the insider's info on Bluray.
I haven't jumped on the bandwagon yet because I'm waiting to see how the hardware shakes out.
I don't mind shelling out $2K for gear but I'd be damned if its obsolete in 6th months.
I've been down that road with dvd, dvd-a, sacd, etc.
Its been a bumpy start for me here so I hope I will stick around.
We will see.
I don't back down much, but I am man enough to admit when I'm wrong.

I think I found out about this site from HighDefDigest. I used to frequent that place several times per day, but the constant stupid arguments from many of the HD DVD supporters over there put me off. I'm not against thoughful debate, but most conversations over there (I'm thinking specifially about their "Smack down" forum) are anything but thoughtful.

There are a few reasonable people over there (on both sides), like (off the top of my head) ack_bak, fozziwig, kid_banana, and some guy from Toronto. Even HD DVD supporters like rmslives and cochahiseguy(sp?) are civil and reasonable. I see that a few of them have joined our ranks, so welcome!

Anyways, I joined here because I'm pro-Blu (though currently without any High Def player), but enjoy thoughtful debate with people who aren't foaming at the mouth nutjobs! I respect people who have a different point of view from me, provided that there's some rational reason for doing so. I have no time for people who claim they want Blu to fail because "Sony suxxorz!!!!11!!". Those idiots probably enjoy listening to their CD players (they probably don't know that Sony had a hand in developing that, but they were probably in diapers--if they were even born!--at the time).
