It's funny they want to keep the original in the rebooted continuity when it seems almost unanimous that fans don't want that. Especially since Leatherface is in his 70s at this point. It works for Michael Myers because there's an air of the supernatural about him anyway, but Leatherface is just a guy. This is basic stuff for horror fans but I guess some studio heads don't get it or (more likely) care. That's why I thought bumping up the date to the early 21st century would allow them to still tell a new story while also keeping the local lore alive.

I can't say I hated this movie as it is, though. As slashers go I've certainly seen worse, and I did sit through the entire thing, which can't be said for Texas Chainsaw.
Oh so you basically seen the more "serious" ones. Not judging since I love the 1974, remake and The Beginning for their more scary vibe and the family characters which I truly believe they add some lore to the franchise and makes it more interesting than Leatherface by himself. But all these new movies are just focusing on the crazed scary chainsaw dude from the posters and marketing department than what made the actual movies interesting in the first place. If they make a sequel to this one, I hope they add some sort of lost family member or at least an unhinged character to fill that void. Also to stop making the main characters incredibly dumb.

That's good to know. I liked the original, it's probably among the top horror films I've seen, and the remake is by far the best of the modern horror remakes. I thought The Beginning was lackluster but I liked how they filled out the story of the family and the town. I will check out the rest eventually but I think I've seen the best of them. The fact that its a family of killers that sets this series apart from something like Friday the 13th imo. I definitely want the family back in the next one, but I don't think that will happen unless it's another reboot, because if the family is still around why isn't Leatherface with them?

Anyway Sally's
[Show spoiler]death was hilarious. I have to wonder if her arc was intentionally awful, it was identical to Laurie's in Halloween 2018 until that bit. Abrasive Texan was a better written character than her. Probably the best written character in the movie, now that I think about it.

Yeah this new one I only liked because it's just so dumb but surprisingly shot well for a low budget movie and had better looking gore in some areas than Texas Chainsaw 3d which spent more money on the 3D than on, you know, the rest. Also while its not the classic Leatherface, I think he was really threatening in this one, not as imposing as the Remake but still creepy.

I wish a spin off that explained what happened in between the 1974 and the 2022 movie is made, but I think two prequel movies in this franchise is enough for most people. The old lady character and abandoned town kinda makes it seem like there was some backstory that can be told without being too convoluted like in the Halloween (Halloween 6) or Friday the 13th series (Jason Goes to Hell). Something basic, but for now this movie sits as just your average dumb slasher flick, an entertaining one tho.

Yeah, this one was definitely in the 'so bad it's good' territory for me. The cinematography was a pleasant surprise, it looked a lot better one would expect. I thought the crawl space scene was pretty well doneall around, too. I think every other movie has been a prequel since the remake, but I'd argue another is warranted for this one, or a Godfather II-esque sequel/prequel. Maybe for the next one they'll send someone into the town to find Leatherface and we get an explanation of what happened in those 40+ years.

I do recommend at least Texas Chainsaw Massacre part 2 (1986), it is an intentional black comedy but it still has that family dynamic from the first film without the usual "couple or group of friends traveling get lost in Texas and end up in the cannibal house to get killed one by one" trope from 6 or 7 of the movies in this franchise. Not perfect, but still enjoyable in my opinion for its very 80s gore fest vibe and different take of the story.

TCM: The Next Generation is legitimately better. Renee Zellweger has some of the best chase scenes in slasher cinema, and Matthew McConaughey is wildin' out to the point of extremely fun levels. TCM '22 is as bland, uninspired and annoying as it gets. It's not even entertaining in how bad it is. Criminal.

I didn't know that those two were in a Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie. That's pretty surprising.

The movie is bad, but it's that once in a lifetime "good bad". Very weird, very entertaining. Definitely worth watching! Especially under the influence

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation might be one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Nice kills but the story was very lame. Kinda disappointing.

Contrary to everyone else, I found the cinematography to be rather poor. The movie doesn't have a shred of atmosphere or grit. Pretty colors, a clear image and a few cool looking shots don't make it an effectively photographed film.

Thought it was ok. A fat bag of stupid but was never bored.

And a big LOL at people talking about "insufferable" characters. In 1974 a character called Franklin became the most insufferable character ever put on screen.

Exactly, they should improve on that aspect from the original. Not expand it to almost everybody else. Granted I kinda liked the mechanic character and
[Show spoiler] some aspects of the school shooting survivor. Basic character development, but I guess it's better than nothing for her. Also Dante's girlfriend (forgot her name) didn't really do nothing too stupid or necessary, she is just there to get killed. Yay!
.

I thought this was really good. It has plenty of gore and suspense. Yeah, the characters were horribly unlikable but since its a horror movie that really didn't bother me. Leatherface was awesome.

Franklin was tolerable at first, then got worse as things got crazy. These people were insufferable douche canoes by default before they were even under any kind of stress.

Red face

I'm a big horror fan. I should have watched this day one (despite having no expectations for it), after marathoning all of them. But, my GF has been the holdup. The original TCM is one of her favorites. But, other than Part 2, she hates the franchise. It is her ground zero of taking a good single movie, turning it into an unnecessary franchise, and running it into the ground. She especially detested TCM 3-D, and skipped Leatherface entirely. So we've just been kind of putting it off. Tonight's the night. Wish me luck.
