Yes the movies were not up to par with the TV show, but I do not think the writing staff was used to doing such long episodes. Maybe going back to 20min episodes will bring it back to the good old days. I hope. We'll see though.

No, they wen't through a wormhole and could end up naywhere in the universe. I guess this would be briefly 'dealt' with in the first minute of the first episode (eg: they just so happen to 'warp' back to the planet express building). ![]() |

Fantastic news. While I was happy to get the movies (something is better than nothing right?), I didn't love them. Every one I saw (3 of the 4) felt just too long. Going back to a proper 30 minute show will be perfect though, and I can't wait.
Now, give us movie 1 and 2 on Blu!!! I'd gladly accept a double pack as well ![]() |

Even better than rumoured 13:
Comedy Central resurrects 'Futurama' 26 New episodes begin airing mid-2010 By Nellie Andreeva Taking a page from the “Family Guy” resurrection guidebook, the canceled Fox animated comedy is returning with an order from Comedy Central for 26 new episodes. Writers already are working on stories for the new batch of episodes from the sci-fi cartoon created by Matt Groening and David X. Cohen, which is slated to premiere on Comedy Central in mid-2010. Just like with “Family Guy,” the performance of “Futurama’ ”s reruns on Comedy Central and on DVD prompted its resurrection. It comes on the heels of the ratings success of four feature-length original “Futurama” specials on Comedy Central: “Bender's Big Score,” “The Beast with a Billion Backs,” “Bender's Game” and “Into the Wild Green Yonder.” “When we brought back ‘Family Guy’ several years ago, everyone said that it was a once in a lifetime thing that canceled series stay canceled and cannot be revived,” said Gary Newman and Dana Walden, chairmen of 20th TV, which produces “Futurama” and “Family Guy.” “But ‘Futurama’ was another series that fans simply demanded we bring back.” "Futurama," which aired on Fox for five seasons (1999 to 2003) centers on Philip Fry (Billy West), a 25-year-old pizza delivery boy who accidentally freezes himself on December 31, 1999 and wakes up 1,000 years later with a fresh start at life and a "diverse" new group of friends including Leela (Katey Sagal), a tough, but lovely one-eyed alien and Bender (John DiMaggio), a robot who possesses human characteristics and flaws. All key voice cast members are expected to return, along with the series’ core writing team. Groening and Cohen attributed the show’s return to “some sort of mysterious time loop.” Comedy Central acquired the originally produced 72 episodes of “Futurama” in a deal in January 2008. “There remains a deep and passionate fan base for this intelligent and very funny show," said Comedy Central’s senior vp programming David Bernath. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/...c424dc9d79d2a1 |

After watching all the four movies (including the terrible Into the Wild green Yonder), I think Matt Groening is making the same mistake he did with the Simpsons, basically go for a more commercial approach with the humor trying to appeal to the Family Guy/ Shrek crowd, with pop culture refernces all around (Futurama used them more as plot devices), honestly Family guy is better than the recent epidsodes of the simpsons and direct to video Futurama movies, and I am not a fan of Family Guy (I hate the random pop up jokes, and scenes that go forever with a cheap joke, Hurting knee scene anyone), they delay the plot by clogging it with irrelevant humor, rather than using the humor within the plot. It's like they shove shorts during the movie they were wanting to just watch. Both Matt groening and Seth Mcfarland are forgetting what made their shows great in the first place, creative, consistent writing and storytelling, as most of these shows got in the first place. The only cartoon series that can still make great epidsodes for the long run today is South Park (though there is the occasionally just indulgent epidsode, okay it is frequently indulgent), but it's smart, vulgar, consistently funny, and doesn't fall into the traps that plague many cartoon shows, but rather use those traps on us. It's pure gross satire that makes fun of everyone that is relevant to the plot, though does throw in something irrelevant sometimes.
