I'm trying to do some research and wanted to know what scenes from movies were genuinely creepy to you all?
Not like jump scares or slasher gore, but scenes or full movies that gave you genuine goosebumps and maybe made you turn on the light as you watched it? And I'm not talking just horror movies, like for me one of the creepiest scenes is from Field Of Dreams, when you see Doc Graham walking down the dark street with the fog. That scene as well as the first scene where Ray's daughter says there is someone on the field and Ray goes out and the ghost of Shoeless Joe is out there. Those scenes sent shivers down my spine. So was just wondering what some other good spine tingling scenes/movies there are that I should check out. Thanks in advance for the reply. And apologies if there is already a recent dedicated thread, I searched and didn't see anything |

In "Twin Peaks", a sequence where Laura Palmer returns home from school in the middle of the day. There is a POV shot of her coming in and looking around the house, in broad daylight, walking upstairs, down a hallway, to her room. Opening her bedroom door, the whole room is illuminated by daylight, she looks over and it quickly pans over to 'Bob' creepily behind her dresser, looking around at her. It whip pans back to Laura's shrill-screaming face. She runs out of the house. I always found that creepy.
Several moments in the original 1974 "Black Christmas". Killer hiding between clothes in the closet; behind the door, eye showing through the crack between the door and frame; those creepy phone calls; the big twist reveal from the cop on the phone; still in the house at the end. "Amityville II". When the young man is home alone. That entire sequence. (Quiet whispers and laughing all over the house and so forth). "The Shining". Room 237 sequence. The very last sequence of "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer". BIG SPOILER on this next one: There's a film called, "Born for Hell", or "Naked Massacre", that is based on the Richard Speck case. There is a drawn out sequence near the end where, after a man has committed a house full of carnage, a final would-be victim that he is unaware of is hiding under a bed. The man lays down on this bed, and the victim is too scared to leave from under the bed, even after the man falls asleep. So, she instead stays under the bed the entire time the man is sleeping. When he awakens, he leaves the house, and she still remains under the bed for some time before coming out, but finally does. Much of the sequence is done from her point of view from looking out under the bed. Feet and stuff. After all of the cruelty that preceded this scene, and the length of the scene, it is excruciating. I imagined being in that position. Imagine if you sneezed or coughed or something, LOL. Yikes. Of course, the first story in the anthology "Nightmares" (1983), which is itself based on an infamous urban legend that still gets told to this day. It's still all over the internet as a true story to this day. Someone always believes it and freaks out, LOL. These are some that gave me the creeps. |

Yeah, definitely some great horror creepy moments in Twin Peaks and the new series too.
While everything eventually fades in intensity the more you watch something scary, these scenes fit the creepy as hell role really well IMO: SPOILERS When in Pet Sematary 1989, Rachel opens the door to Zelda's room and Zelda flips up and twists her head to look at Rachel. And when Zelda is in the corner of the room, and then suddenly races towards the camera. ![]() In Pet Sematary, pure horror hearing the father screaming for his son after he was struck by a speeding tractor trailer and his tiny shoes fall onto the road. ![]() The music of The Shining 1981. ![]() In Woman in Black 1989, when Kidd is outside in the overcast daylight of the field, and facing the camera, feels something on the back of his neck. He turns and in the distance revealed behind him in the middle of nowhere, is an evil, older woman in a black funeral dress, staring at him with cold, dead eyes, then begins walking closer. And of course the scene when he is resting at night when he thinks it's all over, and above him, floating is a shrieking demon woman in black, floating down towards him with her hands ready to claw him. ![]() In the Exorcist, when he has a dream of his elderly mother walking down into the subway tunnel stairway, he's trying to stop her and then a flash of a demon's face for a second in the darkness. And Regan as the demon, suddenly appearing as his mother as he walks into the room. ![]() In Hereditary, the music, and the first time I see the mother climbing the walls after the son discovers his roasted father on the floor. ![]() And a bunch more from other horror films. |

Seeing Goblin in concert, they played with a big screen playing scenes from the movies they were playing the soundtrack to. When they did the beginning of Suspiria, I actually really got a chill down my spine. Until that moment I always thought it was just a figure of speech, but it really happened and it was perfect.
Also totally agree with the earlier posts about Lost Highway and Twin Peaks. David Lynch does those moments in a way no one else can. Another one is in Mulholland Drive, the two guys in the diner, where the guy is telling the story about the dream he had. No matter how many times I see it, it makes me feel totally panicked every time ,just like the two scenes other people mentioned. |

Even as an adult and no matter how many times I have seen it when Khan puts the space slugs in Chekov's ear if freaks me out. Gave me nightmares for months as a kid after watching it at the drive in.
