Default Nuremberg (2000)

Hey all,

I can't seem to find this movie page here on blu-ray.com. I have historically tried to understand how to search for a non-USA releases, but I'm not understanding how to determine if a page exists or not. Can anyone tell me if this movie exists here, and how they found it in a search?

https://www.amazon.com/Nuremberg-NON.../dp/B081Y6YDG7

Thanks!

Switch the search bar at the top to All Countries, and you will be able to find it under Italy.

I saw "Nuremberg," the 2000 and made-for-television movie, around its initial release on video, which was a DVD. I felt that this film, "Nuremberg," represented the best version that I knew of the Nuremberg war crime tribunal of post-WWII. This means I thought that Stanley Kramer's 1961 "Judgment at Nuremberg" was just a passable movie, despite the earlier one having an all-star cast and great acting by Maximilian Schell and others.

I used to own the 2000 movie, "Nuremberg," in the U.S., semi-cardboard-semi-plastic edition of the DVD. That's a 30-frames-per-second (FPS), NTSC, and single-disc edition with pull-down from 24 to 30 FPS for that release, because the television channel, TNT, produced "Nuremberg" on 35mm film at 24-FPS, according to IMDB. I notice now that the prices for the DVD that I had, for even used copies, has skyrocketed, so I might try to get it back, because I gave it to my sister years ago and I presume she still has it, being from a family of movie collectors that includes a film teacher.

Having the political situation in the end-of-2024 United States that I now observe as a resident, a citizen, having been born there, and a veteran of the Iraq War as a soldier of the U.S. Army, I wanted to rewatch the movie and show it to my wife who had not seen it. But, I had trouble finding any information about transfers. IMDB says it was shot in 35mm, so I was hoping to find a Bluray transfer in high definition at the original frame rate of 24 FPS, which led me to one of the three foreign releases of this film--two being Spanish and one being Italian. I opted for the two-disc Italian release for having a 25-FPS 525i (a.k.a. PAL and Region 2) version and Bluray (Region B) transfer in 24 FPS, both of which the images are formatted to 1.77:1 aspect ratio. We viewed the entire movie from the Bluray, and quality often appears as pixelized or digitized, and black levels are poor. In watching it, I wondered if the 1080 was upscaled from the DVD, so quality was obviously not great, but it also could be formatted to 720, which I don't know. The film grain is apparent, but speckled and snowy mainly in the image blacks, and this would annoy some viewers with a reasonable eye, although this might have some relationship to the HDR capability of my Sony television, since the native black levels of Bluray's HD format versus the television and player's Ultra HD with HDR format could be somewhat causing this discrepancy, I would suppose. But, perhaps, this Bluray may be the best version of this film, anyway. The clarity of the Bluray still overcame the DVD.

After viewing the Bluray in its entirety, I put on the DVD to check quality, and it looks decreased, and the 25-FPS pulldown and 525i, standard resolution are noticeable. So, the Bluray may be the best version for a viewing. I seem to remember that the old U.S. DVD (Region 1) that I used to own had some special features, but I'm uncertain given how many years ago I'd watched that disc.

This Italian Bluray release possesses a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, but only in the Italian-language audio track, unfortunately for me and anyone who dislikes post-dubbed audio, so this is probably not the best version of English audio available, and the old U.S. DVD I once had may have had an English-5.1. The Italian Bluray only has a 2.0 DTS-HD MA for the English language track. The reason to get this Italian version obviously would be to have the picture upgrade in the native framerate, despite the imperfect presentation in terms of the video side--a sacrifice of audio for video, I guess. The disc menu offers only Italian subtitles and Italian-hearing-impaired subtitles, so, when watching this disc, I had to push the 4K player controller's subtitle button to turn those off, because I do not understand the Italian language. The Bluray contains no English subtitles, but I have not checked the player's closed captioning abilities for this disc. Also, the Region-B Bluray does not work in Region-A, which the player showed as a locking error when I tried this disc initially in the Region-A mode.
