sadly, i think you are right, hopefully they will offer some type of deal if you have a copy of the game on disc, maybe they will take a trade in for credit to download it on PSN or something

I have 2 PS3's and I don't really need two. I thought having the BC would be nice but I can't stand PS2 games anymore. They look so horrible these days that I turn it off in total disgust. lol. Worst case senerio would be that I can always download PS2 games. The only PS2 game I own is the MGS 1-3.

Instead of selling it, I thought about trading it for a region B PS3 and that way I can start purchasing Region B blus, but then I would have to find someone to swap it with.

Uh, no probably not. I sincerely doubt Sony would ever bring back Backwards Compatibility for PS2 games----but not let you put the discs in the drive.

If for some reason they did start doing that, I would seriously stop playing games and spend my time elsewhere.

**now, eventually they could make a Playstation that has no disc drive, Like the PSP Go. But a driveless Playstation won't happen until DVDs and Blu-rays are proven obsolete. We are talking decades. Making the PSP driveless was waaaaaay more practical because it had a proprietary standard that had a relatively small install base and is much easier to take care of in the transition.

making hte game a DL isnt really BC .. kinda like the PSP playing PS1 games .. it can play hte DL but it couldnt run a PS1 disc .. and why would you stop playing games if PS2 games were made available for DL ???

But look at some of the PSX/PS1 downloads... like Twisted Metal 2... theres no 2 player support.. you're often not getting the whole experience...

One of the prevailing speculations is that Sony may offer BC at some point down the road as a firmware update. It makes a bit of sense as Sony's public reasoning for removing BC was to cut costs--which makes sense vis-a-vis the launch models which were hardware emulated. However, the post-launch, BC-enabled PS3's had software-based BC, so there wouldn't seem much to be gained, cost-wise, by removing it at that point.

Also, Sony is still making a killing off of PS2 sales. Perhaps, Sony wanted to maintain some purity in that revenue stream and will allow BC as an update at some future point when PS2 sales decline sharply.

by removing BC from the PS3, Sony also made the option simple for those who arent willing to shell the money on a PS3

now that they dropped the PS2 price to $99, they can get revenue from those who wouldnt have bought any console at all

what you think is easier to sell????
100 PS3's
or
40 PS3's and 60 PS2's??
