I'm hopeful that a 4K release means WB felt they could improve upon their previous restoration. Giant is known to be a problem title elements-wise due to the optical printing process used on the film. I recall a lot of the discourse over the Blu-ray release and many thinking it was bad.

I saw this when I was a teenager and was blown away.
I'm getting this and hope that it still has that effect.

I can't imagine WB releasing just the one James Dean film on UHD, especially with Rebel being the most popular. Me thinks we can expect pre-order links for the others in three, two, one...

I think my avatar will explain how I feel about this news. Like others have posted, I too hope all three are released with all the bonus features ported over from the Blu-ray box set..

I'm breaking a finger for every day that goes by without a UHD announcement of the other two films.

Great. I hope WB can get some more of the epic films that they own a 4K restoration.

Some background on the issues with Giant:

From Robert Harris:

Quote:
From an archival perspective, the greatest problem with three films, is that they were photographed on early to mid-emulsion 5248 stock, and processed by one of the most problematic labs in the business, in WarnerColor.
Quote:
As the most problematic of the three, Giant was negative cut and assembled for single strand, direct positive step-printing, and rather than short-cut what would have been printer functions, all fades and dissolves were cut long -- meaning entire shots were dupes. So rather than the audience seeing a jump-cut in quality, the quality of the dupes is merely continually poor.
Quote:
Which brings us to Giant, an image harvest with (based upon the original elements, not upon the way that they have been handled, had the highest highs and lowest lows. Take a good look at the beautiful grain structure of original photography, and you'll know you're seeing something very special. Unfortunately, some of the most iconic shots in the film, for example the entrance to Reata, are dupes, and naturally extremely soft.
From Bob Furmanek:
Quote:
Those are Mackie Lines and are present in all WarnerColor opticals. It's a flaw in the early intermediate stock.
Bob Furmanek's scans of "Hollywood's Conversion of all Production to Color using Eastman Color Professional Motion Picture Films" by John Waner:

The aspect ratio (also from Bob Furmanek):
