Default UBP-X800M2 is it really that good of a 4k player?

https://www.sony.com/electronics/blu...ers/ubp-x800m2

My wife and I are considering splitting cost of this player as a Christmas present for us both. I've been reading about 4k players and this one seemed to get mentioned quite often. We have a Samsung HDR 4k tv were going to put it. Mostly we have blu ray but we have quite a few 4k movies I've gotten during sales and such and will probably upgrade some more on black friday.

Were using her ps3 now as our player and I was curious if anyone has this player and has anything in particular to say about it.

I just hope it does like our ps3 does in that we like if we stop mid movie and turn it off it picks right back up there where we left off the next day.

I just want to ask since a 4k player isn't a cheap investment. We will probably wait till black friday and hope it goes on sale at amazon or bestbuy.

I'd read about the first version of this player and it was reviewed well but I also saw this second version of it was coming out so we just waited for it to release.

I have the ubp x-700 and have had no issues with it with any discs that I have played. I also enjoy playback from usb as well as it supports. It also has the usual streaming services as well. Only issues is you have to go in an enable and disable Dolby Vision on these players which if you have a samsung tv will be a non issues as DV is not supported. It boots up fast as well.

I have the 2 x800 but not the m2, should be just about the same without DV though. I had also the ps3 but have not used it for ages so I don't remember how that one behaved.

My x800 will remember the point you stopped at only depending on the movie, with some movies it forgets completely and you need to start all over again. I've read complains as I did with just about every other player. For me both have been very good players, very solid and it is really very cheap compared to many of the competition, my main complain is that there is no visual display on the player but the same can be said of just about every other player too.

I love the X700.

The X800M2 seems like a good combination of the X800 which lacked DV and the X700 which was lower build quality (but still fully functional)

I was thinking about getting this one, but what is up with so many one star Amazon reviews for so many different sub-$300 blu-ray players (including this one) freezing up, etc? I would feel more comfortable if there was something out there without such a high percentage of complaints.

I have this one and it freezes up once in a while. No idea why. I've tried all of the suggestions. It's possibly a memory issue or possibly the UHD copy protection causing an issue with me passing the video through the receiver instead of a direct connection to the TV. When I reset it, I can usually watch several movies without a freeze. It's annoying, but at least it works most of the time. Given the large number of complaints, I imagine it's the tech not playing nice with other people's set ups. Hopefully it'll get better over time. Upgrading to 1080p was easy. Everything just worked. Upgrading to 4K - not so much.

I had an original X800 that was flawless until broke after a few years. I replaced it with a X700. My X700 froze semi-frequently with 4K discs. I did a factory reset and did not set up the network stuff. I stream on my Sony 4K tv's apps, so I don't need it to stream. I have not had a single freeze in over 4 months. I watch it daily. The freezing is most likely due to HDCP copywrite issues. I'd be curious if anyone else has found the same resolution with their X700 if freezing was an issue.

What do you mean you didn't set up the network stuff? No internet connection at all or are you just not using any of the streaming apps? I have mine set up to not use the internet connection for discs so it doesn't take forever downloading new trailers and I never use the streaming apps on it. That makes no difference in the random freezes. The only thing that seems to help reduce them for a while is a factory reset.

Just received the Goodfellas UHD from Amazon finally and about 15 minutes into the movie, the X800M2 crashes. Turned it back on and hit play, it resumed where I left off. This player is so weird. Since it has two HDMI ports, I could connect one for video to the TV and one for audio to the receiver. Maybe that would reduce or eliminate the freezes. I just prefer to have everything pass through the receiver so I don't have to switch HDMI connections on the TV when I want to use a different device.

Leave it unconnected from the internet. No ethernet and no wifi. I'm telling you I've not had a freeze since and I got them all the time before. Use your tv apps, game system or a roku to stream. Mine is directly connected to the tv. So its the internet connection and not how you run it through your receiver.

Ok thanks. I'll try it. Only downside is every few months a new disc may not play if the player needs an update, but that would happen less frequent than the random freezes.

Sony rarely updates the player anyways.

Don't know if it fixed the issue since I never had problems. I'm updated to the latest firmware.

I still wonder if was best idea having 700 4k m or gotten this oh well i'm ok despite that It did freeze when I watch dark knight rises the 4k and I had to clean disc then work

I would still be using 800 if wasn't what happen power outrage back on 6th in feb if I only never turn bluray player when power went out wouldn't jacked it up even more besides stop remembering disc resume

I still question myself onto why when I had 800 past 5 years it's been put up why the player will shut down when I watch a movie when volume on onkyo receiver txnr575 was 64 or 70

keep in mind receiver never goes off it was player it's not doing it 700 4k m nor there's no audio dropouts as of yet like 800 was when view a movie or Netflix either

the Netflix hasn't even froze on 700 like 800 did when I fast forward a few times I used to unplug and replug back when audio was out on 800 when was watching Netflix I used to turn off receiver and turn it back on to get audio back

I just wonder if I did something that made everything I had 800 with audio dropouts bluray player shutting down on itself when volume 64 or 70 why I don't see that happening on 700 4k m as of yet

granted it was old 5 years besides it also freeze eject issues all I remember when I had 800 bluray player turn off receiver on before I put 700 4k m 2 days before I was moving entertainment center around twice 2 separate occasions I'm not sure receive noise or it was sorry smoke alarm in room loud alarm like noise

whatever that noise came from and yes did stop what was doing 800 not doing it 700 4k m as of yet also when I watch dvd full frame and then go back to it goes wide screen automatically on 800 then back to full not sure why did that

is the audio 800 louder then 700 and that is why bluray player would had shut off when it gets loud in the past

5 years is not old. There are users on this website still using 2006 Blu-ray machines.
