Will almost certainly get a UK release, not only because of the name value of the property, but because StudioCanal are putting a Double Bill in UK cinemas on 8th July, per FDA.
The Railway Children also feels like it could be a candidate for 4K, as Return is out in July and FDA list a cinema rerelease of the original on 1st July. |

I'm not usually a fetishist for boxes of tat or steelbooks, but I hope this gets some good options and SC don't give it cover art as awful as the standard Blu-ray releases.
The limited edition 2-film Blu-ray had a lovely slip artwork though, as did the steelbooks, so I wouldn't mind them reused, quite the opposite! I'd love them to use this one though. I think it was done for the first VHS release? https://www.darkentriesrecords.com/s...daleks-poster/ Last edited by oddbox83; 03-26-2022 at 01:55 PM. |

If one comes, surely the other has to! Unless they change tactics now. They've been released together in the UK since the first DVD. A small delay between them might happen this time but I'm pretty sure still if we get the 1st, we'll get the 2nd as well.

Someone over in the UK & Ireland release section has pointed out that the BBFC have just rated both films (on the 29th of March - Studio Canal) hopefully that points towards both being released together on UHD:

A UK release of both films on UHD is confirmed in this month’s Dr Who Magazine. Released on 20 June and 18 July as standard editions and steelbooks.

I can't speak for the previous UK release, but there is an audio anomaly on the Kino disc on the last reel, where the dialogue is far too quiet in relation to the music and sound effects.
The error is replicated here, on an official clip that predates the Kino BD by two years. |

Wow, Amicus made it to 4K before Hammer. Subotsky and Rosenberg must be smiling somewhere over that.

From Doctor Who Magazine:-
Dr. Who and the Daleks (1965) and Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. (1966) star Peter Cushing as the Doctor and were directed by Gordon Flemyng. Both films will be released as 4K ultra high definition discs this summer. On Sunday 19 June the BFI Southbank in London will host a special preview event, including a double-bill screening of the new restorations. Both films will then be theatrically rereleased from Sunday 10 July. The films will be available as 4K UHD collectors’ editions and steelbooks on 20 June and 18 July respectively, with streaming available on the same days. Each collectors’ edition will include a 4K UHD and Blu-ray disc, a booklet with new essays, an exclusive 32-page version of a new book from publishers Titan, a collectable coin, art cards and posters. New artwork for these releases has been specially commissioned from Johnny Dombrowski. The two releases will include the special features from previous editions – including 1995’s Dalekmania and the interviews that accompanied the original Blu-rays. New material will include updates on the latest restorations and audio commentaries by Mark Gatiss, Kim Newman and Robert Shearman. These were previously only available on the US versions of the Blu-rays released in 2020. In addition, Marcus Hearn has directed new documentaries examining the legacy of each film. The new restorations were prepared by Silver Salt, who completed work on the films in February. “These 4K remasters have utilised the original Techniscope negatives for the first time, so you’re actually seeing the first-generation images that were physically in the cameras when the film was shot,” says Anthony Badger, who’s part of the Silver Salt team. “A tremendous amount of time and effort has gone into the scanning, restoration and HDR colour grading process and the results have definitely been worth it.” |

Thank you very much, does anyone reckon they're likely to be shown in any cinemas outside London?

I guess it depends on a couple of things. How many new releases there are at that time and how profitable cinema’s found it showing older films in the last few years (when they were allowed to open) when we didn’t have much in the way of new films being released.
The 4K release dates don’t make this very attractive though for cinemas as the first film is released before the theatrical release date and the second is released just over a year later. |
