So, PS5 has new software update. I updated the system and the picture mode gets locked to "Game Mode" itself and not changing. On my X900h I have the HDMI input set to "Enhanced Format" and the "game picture mode" is mandatory only if we select the enhanced format VRR option according to Sony but now after the PS5 update the "Game picture mode" is locked for both Enhanced Format and Enhanced VRR format. Is it possible to override this setting since I am not using the VRR mode? The "Game" picture settings are too dark for my liking so I definitely want to change it back to Enhanced Format and set my own picture settings!
Please help. |

The 900H directly communicates with the PS5. Enhanced for 4K/120 Enhanced VRR These 2 settings will force the display into Game Mode. You could try Enhanced Format Dolby Vision or Standard Mode. If these 2 options lock into Game Mode, then there isn’t a way out. In Enhanced Mode (4K/120) you should still have access to Local Dimming. Set that to Medium or High. For Xtended Dynamic Range, set that to High. VRR mode disables Local dimming. So you don’t want that for any HDR10 content. |

There isn’t really any point to using other “Enhanced” modes. If I were in your shoes, I’d pick 4K/120. Make sure to check the PS5 Video Output Settings in Settings to view information. You should see 3840x2160-60hz HDCP 2.3 HDR Supported Frequencies in HDR 24,30,60, 120 (yuv422) Same for SDR Sony 900H has a ton of picture options you can tweak to your liking. The biggest benefit to being in Game Mode is you’ll have 14.5ms input lag. Forget about VRR & 120 as being important. Most games are 60 on PS5 & support HDR10. |

It makes sense if the game mode is locked when we switch to VRR mode but it locks on the normal Enhanced mode also which it shouldn't since many people use that to watch 4k movies as well. So the only two inputs where its not locked to game mode is standard mode and Enhanced mode dolby vision. |

To each their own viewing preferences. Me personally, I stay away from Vivid. Though I know people who prefer that mode. No judgement here. I like low input lag, HDR, & a smooth 60 whenever possible. |

I know. I remember once someone here told me that if you watch tv in vivid mode then you can state at the sun directly too. Lol. But I have seen hundreds of people complaining about the same issue because they play games in vivid mode and as I mentioned before the update you could play 60 fps in vivid picture settings too. |

When PS5 gets VRR, you’ll have the option to turn it off entirely.
What you want is for Sony to add an on/off toggle for ALLM. That would resolve the issue. For now though, your only option is to actually select Enhanced Dolby Vision from your TV. |

![]() ![]() Just got the Sony A90K a few weeks ago and this has been my biggest gripe so far. The PS5 is my only blu ray player, so when I put a disc in to watch, it only allows me to watch on Game mode. Can't change it unless I disable VRR format. I can technically do that, and I have. But switching between VRR and Dolby format every time I want to watch a movie or play a game is super annoying. Have to adjust the VRR settings on the PS5 every time I switch back. Wish I could figure out a workaround. |

My only “thing to try” suggestion would probably be something you have already tried but here goes.
Try leaving the PS5 System on with ALLM set to Off. Turn off your TV. Turn on your TV. The TV shouldn’t recognize ALLM. If you still can’t switch picture modes it means the HDMI-CEC link is enabled on your PS5 in HDMI Settings. Turn that off. If that doesn’t work, than Sony & PS5 are constantly communicating via HDMI regardless of TV power status. This was a problem for me when I owned my 900H. I knew something was off when I turned off my PS5 & instead of getting “no signal” on my TV, I was getting a black screen. Since then however Sony has made many updates. The current PS5 firmware btw is 6.50. |

Also if you have let the PS5 automatically select HDR set-up, it is wrong too. lol unless your OLED is 2,000 nits capable of peak brightness. |
