Default Monstrous (Christina Ricci) - July 05, 2022

Monstrous Blu-ray

Quote:
Laura (Christina Ricci), traumatized by an abusive relationship, finally runs away from her former husband with her seven-year-old son Cody. But in their new, idyllic and remote sanctuary, they find they have another, bigger and more terrifying monster to deal with…one that will test both their mental health issues to the limit.

The premise sounds eerily similar to Bryan Bertino's The Monster from 2016.

I watched this last night, it's OK, fine really but nothing too memorable.

I just watched this on Showtime on-demand. This is a very, very sad story. I didn’t figure out the twist
[Show spoiler]involving the son
until the very end.

I remember hearing mixed things about Monstrous, but Christina Ricci is always worth watching. The eerie atmosphere looks promising, but is it a more psychological thriller or straight-up horror? Has anyone here seen it—does it deliver, or is it one of those slow burns that don’t quite pay off?

Without spoiling, it's a bit of both but leans a little more into the psychological. It's an interesting idea and reminds me of those mid-budget horror/thrillers that used to be made years ago which have mostly fallen out of favour in recent years. It's best to go in with as little information as possible.

Being a Ricci fan, it's worth a watch. It's okay, not great. I have the German blu-ray and I'd probably give it 6/10.
