Films are, for the most part, designed to entertain. They may have messages or motivations but we watch them to be entertained on some level. So with that knowledge comes a certain expectation that there will be a certain amount of reality bending or twisting for entertainment sake, especially so with genres like Sci fi, horror etc.
But what films do you find completely implausible that are meant to be taken as serious depictions of real life? I know pretty much all movies have artistic license to some degree but any stand out movies that just don't ring true at all to you? The Mosquito Coast is one for me. No part of that film, for me, has any basis I the real world, from the characters actions, to the dramatic beats, nothing. It was a bit of a surreal experience. |

Promising Young Woman (For all the applause it got, I found it completely unconvincing and quite juvenile minded. The finale that everyone was cheering about is grossly oversimplified to a completely unbelievable degree.)
Inside Man (2006) (Good grief was that silly.) Grand Canyon (1991) (Not one character or situation rang true to me.) Crash (2005) (The Oscar winner one; ugh... Again, nothing believable. Just one big sermon.) |

The Trump allegory in Halloween Kills. Admittedly, a horror film but it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Saving Private Ryan
The taking of the beach is harrowing and shows what those poor men probably really went through. Then when they actually go to find Private Ryan the film turns into a stupid action flick. |

Every fictional movie I've ever seen, and thank Buddha they are. When I want realism, I go out into the real world.

Yeah, I forgot about Sleepers.
That moron Lorenzo Carcatteras actually tried to pass that nonsense off as a 'True Story' back then, too. He had been a somewhat respected journalist before, and that ruined him. It's not only completely unrealistic/unbelievable as a fiction, but he wanted us to believe it was real. So idiotic. |

Yeah I guess I see where you are coming from there. The opening was so visceral and new that whatever followed I guess seemed more standard fare. I wouldn't call it unrealistic, just more cliche.
