Default Alfred Hitchcock Presents HD

I do not see any other inquiries into hd transfers of this classic tv series. Is this something in the plans? Is this a studio issue that will prevent it from ever happening? Was it all on tape and recorded over?

What's the story?

I agree. TZ has one of the best blu releases in history. AFP needs the same kind of respect.

My hunch is that Universal just doesn't think it would be profitable. Look at how they are still marketing the heck out of the Hitchcock movies they own, but doing absolutely nothing with the TV show.

And also remember that here in the US, they never even finished releasing the series on DVD.... and I'm pretty sure this was all shot on film, like most shows from the 50s.

I actually prefer AHP over Twilight Zone. It's crazy this show hasn't been upgraded yet.

With these continuing to be repackaged for DVD, I'm assuming we're not getting closer to a BD release? Anyone familiar with these 2021 Australia DVD releases?

And coming April 2022, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Complete Series.

I read on another site that these are all region free despite being labelled Region 4, and are in NTSC, not PAL. I'd love confirmation from others though before I drop that amount of coin.

Only by seeing the boxes in a retailer. I would not pay that kind of money for DVDs. Last week this retailer JB-HiFi, had a sale, buy one get one free but these sets were excluded. Surprisingly Xfiles that is on BD, have more than double the discs is cheaper and it was included in the sale.

I noticed that as well. JB does have some boxed set sales, so hopefully they get reduced at some point.

For me is not enough to tempt me but they are having right now a flash sale 20% off plus code 92wickedweds gives you another 5% off. It will last only 24hrs.

I looked on a page the resolution is just a little higher at 768x540 which is a small jump over the other one not worth it to me

United Kingdom Alfred Hitchcock Presents repeat run on Sky Arts

Since sometime during autumn last year, have been watching selected episodes of anthology series Alfred Hitchcock Presents. I say "selected", it started off with two or three episodes from each of the first three seasons, but I've watched the majority of the fourth season as I've been enjoying it that much (it finishes it's repeat run on Sky Arts this coming Sunday evening/night, but I've been watching episodes on Sky's On Demand service, which currently has all of the first four seasons on there, as well as the first three episodes of Season 5). The repeat run moves onto the fifth season next Monday evening (Sky Arts show double bills of the show on the days it's on).

Like with other anthology series, there is the occasional not-so-great episode, but the majority of the AHP episodes I've watched have been very memorable for the right reasons. Well written and witty (including Alfred Hitchcock's opening and closing segments).

Haven't yet got used to the slight change in theme tune with the fifth season.

Really do hope this series gets the Blu-ray upgrade.

This has been one of my "holy Grail" TV titles for years. Still keeping my fingers crossed.

Reminds me of John Candy hosting the series.

Sadly I doubt an HD release will ever happen for AHP or AHH. From what I have found just searching around, there is apparently no HD scans of the 35mm masters as of yet. All streaming is probably just upscaled. Add to the massive undertaking it would be, the fact that it jumped back and forth between CBS and NBC (may or may not play a factor as to the masters), then the sad fact that we still haven't had HD releases on a few of his earlier films yet, and it doesn't look good for an HD release of such a massive series as AHP and AHH. In the US they never even finished releasing the series on DVD. The sales must have been very dismal.

Thankfully a complete set did eventually get released in Australia on DVD. Yes it is an older format but the show does look very very good on it. It was indeed officially authorized by Universal so maybe it would be possible. However Anthologies (Twilight Zone aside), especially from earlier TV have rarely gotten any releases at all, and even rarer in HD. As more time passes it becomes more and more unlikely. I think we should be extremely thankful it was released at all in any resolution. I certainly hope I am proven to be wrong. It would be a definite preorder for sure!
