I hope Universal or Arrow can do Conan on 4K in the US, provided Fox don’t own the elements.

Awesome! I hope that both Conan movies with Arnie will also get the 4k treatment

They really should release both Conan movies on 4K, since next month is the 40th anniversary of Barbarian.

Red Sonja before Conan the Barbarian? Someone has been sleeping somewhere.

I'd buy the Schwarzenegger barbarian trilogy on 4k if it was available as such.

I mostly want the first one but I'd take the second one too. Sonja? Maybe.

Do Studio Canal even have the rights to the two Conan movies?

I think the first one is still with Fox in Europe.

Red Sonja being released on 4K ahead of Conan the Barbarian is just crazy.

It is, but we can't help that CONAN is now a Disney title in many markets outside North America so the odds of ever seeing it on 4K UHD there are slim to none.

They don't. Unless something has changed:

1st one is Disney/Fox in most international markets

2nd one is MGM in most overseas places because Orion had some of the international rights (I think). MGM produced their own Special Edition with unique extras for "Destroyer" (interviews, commentaries, etc.) on DVD & Blu-Ray outside the U.S.

It would be crazy if the two movies were owned by the same company/distributor. But they're not, so it isn't, because one has nothing to do with the other. Although, given how cosy StudioCanal seem to be with Universal then perhaps they know something we don't w/ref to Uni doing Conan this year and are releasing Red Sonja to cash in on it...

Good point. Also it is the 40th anniversary of Conan so would make complete sense for Universal to chose 2022 to release the UHD.

Hope so. I wouldn't mind Red Sonja as part of a Conan boxset but I'm not buying it individually.

Not sure, they have their own business there

Quote:
Established in 2012, STUDIOCANAL Australia & NZ was formed following the acquisition of Hoyts Distribution and its film library of over 120 titles in Australia, including the successful SAW series and Twilight Saga franchise. STUDIOCANAL Australia is one of the largest independent film distributors in the country. The business distributes independent films in Australia and New Zealand through theatrical, home entertainment, television and digital channels.

STUDIOCANAL is a subsidiary of the CANAL+ Group. It is one of Europe's leading companies in the market for co-production, acquisition, distribution and sale of international feature films. STUDIOCANAL is the only studio operating simultaneously in three main territories across Europe: France, the United Kingdom and Germany. The company distributes a total of more than 50 films a year throughout Europe. Additionally, STUDIOCANAL owns one of the most important libraries in the world, with more than 5,000 international titles.
And Universal Sony Pictures Home Entertainment teams up with Paramount and SC over there.

We are Australia’s leading home entertainment business distributing diverse content across film, TV, family and documentaries from Universal and Sony as well as our partners; Paramount, STUDIOCANAL and Transmission Films across physical and digital channels in Australia.
