Default Family Ties: The Complete Series on Blu-ray 1982-1989 | Seasons 1-7

I'm likely in the Minority here, but I dug this show. I thought Fox was entertaining and Michael Gross and Meredith Baxter were great as the Parents. I even thought Justine Bateman was kinda hot (I even liked "Satisfaction," except for Neeson's performance, which I thought was odd).

I assumed, obviously wrongly, that because this show was so popular, that it would eventually be released on Blu-Ray. Obviously not the case.

Does anyone know anything about a BR release of this... or for that matter, Satisfaction.

Unlikely because it was shot on videotape.

It doesn't look bad... same with the latest WKRP. Most episodes are really decent-looking.

I may be wrong but I thought I read that the "resolution" on those original Tapes is decent... maybe the scan rate was reduced for archival?

Dang, thought this was an announcement. A question mark in the thread title wouldn't have gone amiss.

Satisfaction was made by NBC productions, but distributed by Fox, so it's probably owned by Disney now. Chances of it getting a blu? Slim to none unless they licence it to someone else.

Thought so too on this being an announcment haha. At least I learned it was shot on video tape so no Blu-ray is likely.

It was a wonderful show, so glad I was able to see it when it aired back when I was a young teenager.

I don't know how it holds up today but I remember really liking it back in the day and was one of my favorite comedies from that period. It was obvious MJF was a huge talent and would go onto bigger things even if BTTF never happened

It definetely holds up fine!
Of course it's a classic sitcom, so as a genre it's almost unthinkable today.
But characters, stories, situation and jokes still works.

It's not one of those sitcom that belong only to the 80s (Alf, Small Wonders, Facts of Life, Diff'rent Strokes) and only sitcom enthusiasts like me still enjoy.

Well at the very minimum it could get an upscale like Alf got.

I loved Family Ties as a kid, mostly seeing it on reruns since I was only 2 years old when it first started. Hard to believe its been 40 years...wow...

Stumbled on this very channel while looking for college football. I was struck not just by how much it holds up, but how you don't see the same kind of social commentary as much today. It was actually refreshing.

Yes it is nice to have on anytime you want. The Tom Hanks episodes are good.

It's a great show. Everyone knows about Michael J. Fox, but the secret weapon is Michael Gross. His timing & delivery are fantastic and he's hilarious without overshadowing anyone else in the cast.

I don't have the complete set, but have some of the individual seasons on DVD and some episodes are cut. The one that stands out to me is the episode where Elyse finds out she's pregnant again. She asks Alex if he remembers the song they used to sing when he was little. He says yeah & sings "We're in the Money" and then they all sing "I'm a Little Teapot." That whole scene is cut. I don't think METV plays it either.

I don't know what else might be cut. I don't remember music playing a huge part on the show other than the Billy Vera song being very prominent in the Tracy Pollan 2-parter (which is still present on the DVD).

Depends on the tape format they used. If it were 2 inch quad tape, then the horizontal resolution could be 540 lines which exceeds that of a standard resolution dvd @ 480 lines. So yeah, 2 inch quad tapes would benefit from an HD release.

I'm just not sure that they would have used 2 inch quad for a TV series in 1980. When I look at how soft and blurry the image is on Three's Company, I have to wonder what the hell they were using.

Great show, but like so many of their time, none are in Blu-ray. Even the #1 shows like The Cosby Show are not on Blu-ray. I’d love to see these along with Who’s the Boss, Growing Pains, and lots of others.

Sadly, unless they were shot on film, we'll probably never get true HD versions of them. People back then didn't think to "future-proof" their work.
