USA Bubble (2005) - dir: Steven Soderbergh

First of all, apologies if there is an existing thread for the North American Blu-ray release of Bubble (directed by Steven Soderbergh). It's a film I had hoped to get on Blu-ray.

Has there only been the North American Blu-ray release of it? Have searched Blu-ray.com's database, and there is one listing only (for the North American release). The Blu-ray.com review isn't very positive about some aspects of the release.

There is a blu-ray, but it probably went out of print when the rights reverted to Soderbergh. He has mentioned an upcoming box set of the seven movies that he owns the rights to, which would include "Bubble", but I don't think there has been any information on that in at least a year.

It's readily available for under $10 on ebay. Snatch it up and decide for yourself.

I've always liked Bubble.

The trailer is wild. Like Child's Play 2 meets Kubrick.

Trailer is better than the movie IMO. This movie made me call Soderbergh "the Godfather of Bore" as I just hated it and couldn't wait for it to end. Maybe I should give it another try since I was looking for a different film based on the trailer and word of mouth at the time? One side of me says "yeah, do that, your tastes have changed and it's worked on other films". The other side says "**** that, you're getting old, you have a huge stack of unwatched discs, and this ain't worth any of whatever time you have left to waste on". Leaning latter.

This movie is SLOW. But, it's actually interesting.

I can understand why many will hate, find it boring, and the digital look is at it's lowest in this film. I don't think they worried too much about lighting. It's still quite inventive.

I probably won't watch it again. But, it's definitely worth a view for the serious film addict. It beats many of the films being released now.

It's Soderbergh at his artsiest, but I loved it. It's absolutely not aimed at a mass audience, it's not him in Oceans/Erin Brockovich/Out of Sight mode. It's him experimenting with the possibilities of the film form, in many ways (including using a cast of non actors), but his craft is as astounding as ever, and I found the tiny little story it told truly compelling.

That OOP BD is the only one out there.

He owns the rights now, and his long-promised boxset is still only vaguely on the horizon.

I bought the DVD at a thrift store.

I shot a movie in 2005 on a Canon XL-1 (29 fps). It did quite well for itself considering it's 100% no name. Bubble and my movie Us Sinners visually resemble each other. I don't know how much he spent on this. But, I spent practically nothing. The most $$ went for the XL-1, Lowell light kit, boom and mic.

If anyone is ever going to make their own movie, spend the extra $20 to get the lightest boom pole. It makes a huge difference as the day goes on.

I keep meaning to pick up the DVD myself, it has bonus features not on the Blu-Ray, for some odd reason.
