Default So wait...no Spielberg, Coppola, OR Scott??

So Ridley Scott and Francis Ford Coppola have both followed Spielberg's lead with regard to Blu-Ray? I'm not sure what - if anything - Scott has with Paramount, but this takes The Godfather off the table as an HD DVD exclusive.

In other words...no exclusive "A.I.", "War Of The Worlds", "Saving Private Ryan", "Indiana Jones" series, "Apocalypse Now" OR the "Godfather" series. Well Jesus, maybe I'm a little slow here, but Paramount's not really HD DVD exclusive after all, are they???? LMAO

Not a huge fan of any of the Shrek films. I'll take Pixar's productions any day over the 'trying too hard to be hip' Dreamworks animated films.

Yeah I'd take the Pixar Films over the Shrek Series any day. But I would enjoy the film Over the Hedge.

Don't foreget Gladiator, that came out on Dreamworks... Minority Report that came out on Dreamworks too. In the land of the blind the one eyed man is King... Paramount and Dreamworks must be blind and Blu-Ray is king

Whew...I was worried the Godfather would be released on HD-DVD.

MS or Toshiba paid $150,000,000 for a handful of beans.

I think this really only matters when the director has direct say over what happens to his content..

I know that Spielberg has direct control over what goes where, so this is the reason why he has control over what happens with his films in this war. Coppolla and Scott might have the same control as him, but if not, then don't expect to see it released on Bluray.

But if you recall, Coppolla (with the aide of Mr Speilberg) got Para to give the Godfather trilogy the attentions it deserves for an HD transfer, so we will just have to see!

The only 2 movies Paramount has for this year are Transformers and Shrek 3. Well, you can import those 2 from Fox in Japan, so that's no big deal.

The directors mentioned earlier pretty much have a lot of the big catalog titles locked away from being HD DVD exclusives. What's really left to buy from Paramount within the next 18 months?

Jack Ryan films, Face-Off, Top Gun and possibly a few other odds and ends I can't remember.

I see myself importing a few BD's of some of these before long.

It would be very telling if import BD sales outweigh domestic HD-DVD sales of the same titles!

Who distributes Top Gun overseas?

Also: Any links regarding Coppola's stance?

I hope Ridley won't let Gladiator see the light of day on HD-DVD, that would be great!

You cannot import Transformers. Paramount distributed it worldwide.

Paramount paid for life support. They threw everything they had into this deal. Any dual format player that comes along is still, essentially, a blu-ray player first and foremost. Without the Paramount payoff these players may have never seen the light of day.

The longer HD-DVD can hang on, the longer it can just hang on.
