As for why they aren't broadcast in 60Hz worldwide, my understanding is that while many TVs sold in 50Hz territories can handle 60Hz video, some older TVs still cannot, so that, combined with the need to make the program available as widely as possible, means that the broadcasts in 50Hz territories will be 25 fps. To give you an idea of how many people might be watching TV in antiquated ways, the UK still offers a TV license fee specifically for viewing in black and white, which is almost exactly 1/3 of the price of a color TV license fee. Clearly, there are still people in the UK watching TV in black and white! EDIT: The Sun claims that 4,450 black and white licenses were still in force on March 31st, 2021, however, the number is dropping sharply year-to-year and the remainder are almost all renewals done "in good faith", so make of that what you will. Not going to debate Climate Crisis here. I simply don't want to listen or see about it while I'm watching these. And I absolutely agree - all of these documentaries should have HFR. I hate the slideshow panning shots on a documentary. |

Call me ignorant, but I don't understand how these discs or films wouldn't play in the U.S. based on the Hz. I own Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk and it plays in 4K, HDR, 60fps. Looks beautiful and has no issues. The fact that it won't play in the U.S. seems annoyingly purposeful while simultaneously pointless.
I'm sure this all sounds stupid, so someone educate me, please. |

I don't mind an episode about global warming in these sets. They're 90% animal documentaries, and we're likely in one of the biggest extinction events in history.
Although the blu-rays are a different framerate, if you have an Oppo it will just convert it so you can watch it. |

The US release, if it happens, will have the same 4K discs, while the BDs will probably be different, converted to 23.976 like the 4K discs. |

I watched the Blu-rays from the set at the weekend and this is a really fascinating documentary. Wait until you see how they have bettered the time lapse photography, to more accurately show how plants live and behave like animals. For those who fear plants are boring and simply must have animals, they also feature in every episode, so there is something for everyone. Attenborough even presents on location in the episodes, including a few places that must have had the insurers sweating, like putting him in the Arctic Circle, or his encounter with a particularly savage cactus. I simply can't believe he'll be 96 in May, he could easily be mistaken for a man 25 years younger.
The Blu-ray is wonderful, so I assume the 4K UHD must be exceptional. |

Not to mention the propaganda is from where the money is.... big oil. Heck their own internal documents even talk about how their OWN scientists first reported on what their products were doing and others on how they could best try to mislead the public through propaganda campaigns. |

Watched the 3rd episode which also looked amazing. I really wish though they would give you some kind of idea of the time elapsed in all these time lapse shots. I mean they make the plants look like animals basically with directed and intentional movements all over the place. And that may be true, but it matters to me whether something I'm watching takes an hour or a day or week, lol.

Watched the 4th episode, deserts. It's really amazing how many plants can survive when there's no water. Although I've seen some of that with my own eyes in California. This episode also had a few shots of a technician in a lab. It's been a long time since they've had a non-nature shot in an Attenborough nature doc.

Watched episode 5 about interaction with humans. For those worried it's a global warming episode, it's really not. There's a lot about taking up too much land for farming but it only touches on global warming a few times. All of the episodes comment on it at one point, but it's pretty relevant lol. This was pretty good but the other episodes had stronger picture. Might partly be because of the topic. Now I only have the behind the scenes episode to watch but I might not do it for a few weeks.
