Nothing recent has come out and Jaws 2 was a masterpiece compared to what we've got over the years for Terminator, Predator, Matrix, etc. sequels. Any other Jaws films never harmed anything since they are totally ignored and dont screw up the original in any way.

So, Jaws remains un-butchered by todays standards. IMO.

Here we go with that again. No sequel of any franchise "screws up the original". It still exists just fine.

I agree completely however it is certainly depressing to see a beloved movie or franchise let down by lazy crappy sequels. Especially if they have returning characters.

Tell that to Phantasm's 89 year old Tall Man

Come on man, that isn't a fair comparison considering the form of Tall Man was always geriatric and also Angus Scrimm was used way more sparingly due to his debilitating health, visual fx did the rest.

The big difference between Ash vs Evil dead and other franchises is that AvED is good.

We're talking Robert Englund at age 74 trying to be Freddy. For Arnie to be Terminator they spent millions on visual fx and stunt guys to accommodate him even for simple things, and that isn't counting his salary. Bruce Campbell was in his 50's when he signed up for AvED and the show acknowledged his age.

Raimi folks are almost as annoying as Snyder folks.

Raimi has made The Evil Dead, The Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn and Army Of Darkness. That right there is three more good films than Snyder has made.

And the Spider-Man trilogy, and Darkman, and The Quick And The Dead.

That's 8 films right there.

I actually like when older actors return to their roles. It's interesting seeing a character like Rocky go from 30 to 70.

I like where you're going with this, but...

A Simple Plan > Spider-Man 3

You could argue I spose the lack of attension given to Jaws maybe highlights the way horror hss become a narrower genre.

These days horror tends to aim pretty strongly at a pure horror market rather than something like Jaws which mixes in a good deal of dramatic thriller.

The Fly (1986) The Fly II (1989)

Geena Davis wanted to do Flies in the 1990s as a direct sequel to the first.
According to an Interview she was in talks with Brooksfilms and 20th Century Fox. Her goal was to get David Cronenberg back on board but apparently nothing came of it.

I guess the kids’ ages might’ve been a factor, but I’m surprised there wasn’t a sequel to The Goonies.

And as Interview with the Vampire was a big hit, I’d have thought more would’ve followed but none did (Queen of the Damned came 8 years later, but it’s a standalone story that recasts the main characters, so isn’t really a sequel)
