USA Paperhouse

Does anyone know if there will ever be a US Blu release of this in the near future?

Watched this amazing film last year and also really hope it gets a decent, extras packed release soon! The director has an answer print that apparently is very different to the released version (including the Mum's dubbing done by a different actress before Glenn Headly came in and did it herself at the last minute).

It's currently owned by Lionsgate in the US/UK, and as the film was a Vestron production, having it on the Vestron Video Collector's Series would be a no-brainer. People (including myself) have been requesting it since Lionsgate started the line and as they are continuing to release blu-rays in that series, I'm really hoping Lionsgate gives this the treatment it deserves.

An interview with the lead actress would be great, to hear her experience working on the film.

I recall when I first saw Paperhouse, way back on rental VHS, and it was one of those rare moments where a film was exactly what I hoped it would be and played out exactly as I hoped it would - even down to the final moment of the film (no spoilers) where I had a strong feeling that it should do its animated title logo again, just because that would end things perfectly, and that's exactly what it did.

I've not had many film-viewing experiences like that, where what I felt should happen was exactly what did happen, almost as if the film was reading my mind and playing out in exactly the way I wanted it to. I guess I was just "in tune" with what Bernard Rose was shooting for with the film, but it was immensely gratifying.

It's a shame that I've not been able to upgrade it to HD with a US or UK Blu-ray - looks like the film is only on Blu-ray in France and Germany.

I've had the wonderful French BD for years - it's highly recommended. Great interview with Bernard Rose, but sadly no answer print. Interesting to hear his remarks about how influential Night of the Hunter was in the making of this.

I've always been a fan of this film; I even bought the wonderful Hans Zimmer gatefold vinyl a few years ago. If this comes out on the Vestron line, I'd gladly upgrade. In the meantime the French BD is a great addition to the library.
