They can also take cues from Chapelwaite considering that's the prequel to SL.

I'll be very surprised if this is better than the old miniseries. This shit gave me more nightmares than Jaws

I just re-watched Salem's Lot for the first time in a long while a few days ago. I had even forgotten if I had seen the whole thing before. The only thing I remembered was
[Show spoiler]the vampire appearing at the dinner table scene
, and now I know why. I find the movie really boring. Yes, the vampires are creepy and the climax (
[Show spoiler]the struggle to kill the vampire!
) and rest of the ending are amazing, but aside from that the rest is so boring. So making a 2 and a half hour movie should trim some boring stuff. Hopefully they make the movie good this time.

I'm embarrassed to say I've never seen the original. But I did see the remake with Rob Lowe. I liked that at the time. I'm a fan of Lewis Pullman so I'm looking forward to the new one.

I noticed last night that it's streaming for free on Tubi. Worth checking out if you have the time!

I was under the impression that King preferred the less romantic looking vampires and I'm positive he didn't draw illustrations in his book.

I wonder if everyone is going to die except Ben and the kid. What are the woke characters going to be in this movie? The leads or just some extra for the obligatory changes. Will Danny Elfman do the score? Zimmer? Morricone?

I bought a box set just to get the Lowe version and now it's streaming, free of charge, on Tubi?

Thanks for posting that image of Nosferatu, the "Master" in Salem's Lot. One of the most horrific vampires I've ever seen, although The Strain by del Toro has some very sick looking, evil Vampire monsters in that including the first giant Master with the red eyes.

But yeah, I'm betting they are probably going for a natural look with this new Salem's Lot remake, overlooking the incredible ghastly eyes of the original characters that also gave me nightmares growing up.

Just imagine seeing a normal human face appear out of the darkness, or seeing the one above, which would be more immediately frightening?

I know some will say it's scarier when you don't know if they're a vampire or not, but I like it better when you know it's a creature and no longer human.

Hopefully they at least consider contact lenses for the vampires in this new one. I haven't been keeping up with it. If they get the look of the vampires right, I'll consider seeing it. If they look like normal people with fangs, I'll probably skip it. Make it scary!

I hear your concerns about the slower pace. The pacing is very slow to give a sense of normalcy to the town, as things slowly become corrupted as the 3+ hour film progresses (originally a 2 or 3 part episode miniseries broadcast on different days). Compared to many shows today like Walking Dead, the original Salem's Lot holds up really well in terms of pacing. But yeah, there are some excellent horror moments in the film when things start picking up.

I enjoy it overall, knowing what's in store later in the film.

Is this movie really getting a (proper) theatrical release in September? There's no poster, trailer... nothing.

There’s a movie tie-in edition of the novel (with the poster on the cover?) coming next month…

https://www.amazon.com/Salems-Movie-...p%2C114&sr=1-2

…so it seems to be still on its way. It does seem very quiet, though. You’d think there’d be a trailer by now.

Never, EVER complain when a trailer is kept close to the film's actual release. What, you WANT to see the trailer in front of every movie for six months straight...?!

Hoping this will be good, but have my doubts.

The 1979 TV mini-series is a classic and one of my favourites. A great cast but I think in part, due to the changes to the novel. Giving us a non-speaking Nosferatu-like vampire was a shock and so visceral. The vampire looked plain evil incarnate.

The 2004 TV film Salem's Lot with Rob Lowe is good, again great cast but it's not a patch on the scary and visceral nature of the original. The vampire played by Rutger Hauer was more true to the novel, but by making it a speaking part it just loses something.

Stephen King films don't tend to work on film, unless changes are made. I wonder what this new film version will do. Probably try and follow the novel.

Every day that goes by without a trailer I get worried it's going to move. Which would be unfortunate because it has the perfect date. Warner Bros. has launched many successful horror movies there. I really hope we get a trailer soon.

That Viola Davis movie in September just had its trailer dropped today.

Hoping this one makes its September date because September overall is dead and needs more movies.

With their 45-day theatrical window, a September 9th release date would land it on HBOMax just in time for Halloween as well.
