Flatliners (2017)

Hey at least the Point Break remake had great 3D and some spectacular stunt and action sequences.

I find I usually enjoy most remakes but Flatliners felt particularly uninspired. It's a shame as there's a lot they could do with the concept but it played everything so safe and there was nothing memorable about it. I certainly didn't hate it but it would've benefit from more scares and atmosphere.

Much like the Point Break remake, the hate for this is really a bit much. Flatliners 2017 on it's own terms has a decent cast, not badly acted, has interesting visuals, and for being so awful according to many it sticks with the core concept rather faithfully. Yeah it's a weaker film than Schumacher's no doubt, but as a modern retelling it's not bad overall. Just as the Point Break remake as an action spectacle was utterly tops, it just didn't have the charisma of Reeve or Swayze.
