I liked Top Gun 2 but it's not even in the same solar system as the action genius of George Miller and Fury Road.

Maverick. It didn't make me feel bad for existing while watching.

Maverick by a very very slim margin, like a sliver. If TGM made Maverick more like a sidekick to Penny, then they'd be equal.

I'll give both of them credit for not cluttering up their plots. Both films knew what they were about and didn't get lost or bloated with tangents and subplots. But 'Maverick' felt more like a compelling story while 'Fury Road' was more like one long fun action sequence.

Also, although I was open to a new actor playing Mad Max, I was disappointed in Hardy's performance and felt the film succeeded more in spite of it. If they'd brought back Gibson, the film would've had more resonance for me.

The Top Gun film was pretty good, certainly better than expected but I don't think was truly inspired like Fury Road was. I think that film you could argue is the most original blockbuster since Jacksons LOTR films, takes the franchise and creates something new and interesting rather than focusing on nostalgia.

I'm guessing politics plays a big factor in some peoples opinions although honestly I felt Fury Road was very much anti exclusionary partisan politics, not at all like the cheap grand standing we've seen in other blockbusters.

Maverick and it's not even close for me. I enjoyed Fury Road, but not on the same level as I did Maverick.

Fury Road is my kind of a film and yet Maverick had a better impact on me.
Cinematography is great, it has some emotional scenes, it has J.Connely and the sound was just awesome!

Maverick for the win
