United Kingdom National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 4K UHD

This will no doubt come out in the US as well. But since it's just a UK link I thought I'd post it here. Says 31st of October.

Sing Hosanna!!!! My favourite Christmas film of all time. I've watched it every Christmas since it first came out on VHS, with a few out of season viewings over the years for good measure.

Where's the Tylenol?

Not very good. Too much of John Hughes' sap and silliness. Where's the original? Prefer its more sardonic humor.

John Hughes wrote the screenplay for both of the movies you mentioned, and he wasn't happy with the way either turned out.

I know. Harold Ramis elevated his script in the original. Hughes producing likely had that negative impact on Christmas. He had more power to insert his sap and silliness.

Love both the original and this one, so this is fab news if true. Would be good to also see Vacation arrive at some point too.

Polar Express creeped me tf out even on DVD, I can't imagine the soul-devouring 4K would bring lol

I'd gladly pick up this and Elf though. I always make room for CV viewing every year going on 17ish years now when I first got the DVD.

The first and second were better for me, but this is far from sap

There’s one or two scenes in Christmas where the sap is a bit much IMO. Otherwise it hits the John Hughes sweet spot for me. Glad it’s getting the 4K treatment.

Of course there's going to be a tiny bit of sap -- it's a Christmas movie. As damn well there should be.

I felt this was one of Hughes' tightest scripts, and I appreciated the fact Clark isn't a total fool in this movie. You see him being competent at his job, he's not as much of a cartoon character as he is in the other films -- he just goes a little too far and doesn't know when to quit. It's taken to extremes, of course, or else it wouldn't be funny, but there is an honest undercurrent of poignancy that raises this movie above the others for me. Especially after the crass European Vacation, it was refreshing and gave an extra layer that makes it ideal for perennial holiday viewing. A classic.
