There must be some kind of weird rights issue exclusive to the unrated cuts of both Wild Orchid 1 and 2 in the US, as now both of them have been/are being released here on blu-ray in the cut versions only. The UK got the uncut version of the first on blu though this sequel isn’t available there yet at all. Unless this is just incompetence…

As for rated vs. unrated, it's a rights thing as MGM doesn't have the unrated version rights in the US (I'm thinking Sony might have those). But does it really matter for something like this? |

However, to capitalize on the (minor) success of director Zalman King and producer Mark Damon original effort for Vision (pdg) International, the decision was made to change the title to Wild Orchid 2: Two Shades Of Blue. Wild Orchid 2: Two Shades Of Blue was the US theatrical title. ![]() Wild Orchid 2: Two Shades Of Blue was the US VHS title. Wild Orchid 2: Two Shades Of Blue was the US laserdisc title. ![]() The other title was used when released internationally on VHS; ![]() There is no reason why this nor the first film are only available as only the R rated cuts. Both of them were previously released UNRATED on VHS, Laserdisc and the first one on DVD by MGM; ![]() No excuse. ![]() ![]() |

"Blue Movie Blue" was used on MGM's DVD cover and also on the title card of the version used for the DVD. The title card on the HD version available at digital retailers also uses "Blue Movie Blue":
![]() Yes, it's disappointing that it appears it won't be the Unrated version but it's not surprising because the DVD was the R-rated version as is the HD version available at digital retailers. The Unrated version hasn't been released since the VHS/laserdisc which is typical for these movies. Dream Lover is the same way...the Unrated version was last released on the VHS/laserdisc and if we ever get a blu-ray release, it will probably be of the R-rated version (the HD version at digital retailers is the R-rated version). At least it appears Walt is making the effort to include the scenes from the Unrated version as "deleted scenes". It will be interesting to see if they are HD or SD taken from the VHS/laserdisc. |

I think it is more likely that MGM only has a HD master for the R-rated version and Walt isn't going to spend the money on a 2K restoration of the Unrated version. He'd never make his money back. The boutique labels avoid these movies like the plague and Kino stopped releasing Red Shoe Diaries on DVD after only releasing the first season. |

MGM owns worldwide rights to both movies so it's definitely not a rights thing in regards to different cuts. What probably happened is that MGM only have 35mm IPs to the R-rated versions, and that the unrated film elements are lost/been discarded and only survive on tape masters.

DiabolikDVD has added it to their website so this doesn't appear to be a Ronin Flix exclusive:

I got this in the Ronin Flix sale and had a chance to watch. Not as bad of a movie as I was anticipating. I actually liked it.
It appears the 3 cut scenes are in the special features, but in 4:3 SD.... so basically VHS quality. Still nice to have though. Makes perfect sense now why they released it this way. No way they could do an entire new HD master just to include those 3 scenes. |
