Arrow Christopher Nolan Has Still Not Signed For Batman 3

Okay, I wasn't going to post this. Last night it was only on one site and I had never heard of it. In fact it seemed like it was just someones Batman fan site blog. But this morning everyone's picked it up so I thought I'd pass on the news:

Quote:
An update over at Batman-On-Film has begun to circulate around the interwebs scaring fanboys around the globe. Christopher Nolan has yet to commit to a third Batman film, and at this point he still isn’t interested in making another installment in the Batman series. GASP. I know that might come as a shock to some of you. Conspiracy theories have been flying around that Nolan committed to direct a Dark Knight follow-up when Warner Bros greenlit his sci-fi actioner Inception. That is not the case, nor has it ever been the case.

I’ve had this confirmed to me by almoat a dozen different sources, some high level people that would know. If Warner Bros had signed Nolan for Batman 3, you would have heard about it by now. That kind of announcement has the power to effect Time Warner’s stock price. A company could not hold on to a secret that large. If it ever happened, a formal announcement will be made in short order.

Nolan barely signed on to direct The Dark Knight, and Warner Bros is hoping that screenwriters David Goyer and brother Jonathan Nolan will be able to conjure up a story good enough to convince Chris to return. But chris is very hesitant, and for good reason — he directed a movie that went on to become the second highest grossing film of all time. An action film that won over fans and critics alike. Oscar-level performances, technical innovations and so on and so on. It would be almost impossible to top himself by any account. And to add to the pressure, third installments in film franchises have often been notoriously bad.

Will Christopher Nolan return for a third Batman film? No one knows. I don’t think even Chris himself knows for sure. Worse case scenario, Nolan might return as a producer and oversee the development. Best case scenario — we won’t see another Batman movie until at least the Summer of 2012. Either way, I don’t think we’ll see any developments until Inception is in post production.

I can't blame him on this, TDK was a big one and there is very good chance no matter what he does with a new Batman movie that many will be disapointed because they will just expect something even better then TDK.

read about this this morning...people seem to post any news now to call attention to themselves (not talking about you, GS, but the batmanfilm people )...guess they succeeded!

i'm sure Nolan will return, but if he doesn't, it's scary to think about someone else taking over his franchise, especially since Bale stated that he was signed for 3 movies and would have to do a 3rd even without Nolan

Really? The Dark Knight is second right after Titanic? Nice. I don't think anything will ever dethrone Titanic.

I will be disappointed if he doesn't return. BUT, if he doesn't, I wonder if they would just hand it off to his brother or David Goyer to direct. They could keep the same, tone, theme, and looks as the previous two films.

I just hope if a different director does come on they keep someone with artistic integrity and not go with someone like McG or Michael Bay that just cares about special effects. Hopefully they also keep Goyer and Jonathan Nolan for the screenplay, and maybe possibly Christopher Nolan would be willing to do the screenplay and not direct, although I doubt that would happen.

Are you saying that nerds/fanboys/wannabe critics have unrealistic expectations? Say it isn't so!

My theory on that is that The Dark Knight didn't overtake Titanic's success because of "karma". Not a karma that has anything to do with Christopher Nolan, mind you, but one that has to do with James Cameron.
If you bring up the 1997 Titanic in front of my mother, she'll complain and complain about how she thinks the director should be sued. She says that she saw some movie from the 1970's or 1980's about the Titanic that had the exact same plot. Stowaway rascal woos rich woman with giant diamond & dies. Team goes looking for diamond & that's how we come to know the story.
I can't find the movie on IMDB, because all I've got to go off of is that it's about the Titanic (and there's a million movies about the Titanic) but I have a hard time believing my mother is going crazy and her dementia's first manifestation is in her frustration over James Cameron's having ripped-off the Titanic.
So, my theory is that - because James Cameron ripped off his highest grossing movie - the next movie to overtake it has to be completely unsuspectable. Something like a "Flash of Genius" or "October Sky" type movie. Maybe even something where Duane Johnson plays the dad. Some itty-bitty family movie with a $30 million budget.

I know its a shaky theory, but that's my theory.

Very shaky theory. First, I don't understand how karma would go in Cameron's way if he ripped off the movie. Second, no $30 million movie could ever gross the $1.85 billion needed to overtake Titanic. It would have to be a huge blockbuster movie with worldwide appeal, and no small movie would accomplish that feat.

and it'd have to run for as long as titanic did....

On topic - I really hope he does the next movie, fears of not making another blockbuster are valid, but I think with a good script/story we should be in for a treat.

Put Batman on the Titanic. Maybe Raz Al-Ghul is behind the sinking--there's your billions right there

This reminds me of James Cameron with the Terminator franchise. He did The Terminator, great, then he did T2, becoming one of the best sequels in movie history, but when he learned that T3 would be made for the purpose of profit, he didn't return as director.

I don't blame Cameron or Nolan, if Nolan doesn't return as director, I'm fine with that, end it at Dark Knight.

Hollywood these days jump on the new, hot directors and pressure them to get working on sequels, sequels, sequels.

Funny...with all of the publicity around "Titanic" - and the various backlashes against the film over the years - you would think that someone would have discovered this alleged plagiarism long ago. I'm guessing dementia then.

Also, of all the films that have been the #1 box office champ over the years ("Gone With The Wind", "The Sound of Music", "The Godfather", "Jaws", "Star Wars", "ET"), which one was an "itty-bitty family movie"? Shaky...indeed.

Adjusted for inflation, "Titanic" is #6 of all time and "The Dark Knight" is all the way down at #27. "Mary Poppins" even beats it!
