All the Right Noises (Gerry O'Hara)

Part of BFI's Flipside series. Set to be released on August 24.

Late entry in the "Angry Young Man" school of British filmmaking depicts happily married electrician Bell finding himself in the midst of an affair with an aspiring 15-year-old actress (Hussey). After a pregnancy scare, Hussey and Bell part amicably as the latter decides to go back to his wife. A well-told, very well acted tale that lacks the punch of earlier films in the genre like THIS SPORTING LIFE.

Funny, that I never heard from any of these movies released by BFI under their Flipside label before. Also looking forward to this one.

This is why they are referred to as forgotten British films and why the BFI are bringing them back to the public's attention.

I find this, too! However, I am so pleased that the BFI are bringing these "flipside" movies to our attention - there have been very few so far, which have disappointed me. One might argue that some movies deserve to be forgotten ... of course not everything that is "old" is a "classic", or deserves rediscovery. As a big fan of "The Prisoner" and actor Patrick McGoohan, I happend to note literally in passing, that in "All the Right Noises" the protagonist couple pass a cinema (in Manchester, I believe) where the 1968 classic movie "Ice Station Zebra" is playing .... Also, just to see Battersea Power station working, or the old London underground ticket machines etc. makes for some nostalgic moments, even if I was only 5 years of age when the movie was shot ....
