Are you being serious?

If you are. Have you read the plot? It’s about a person losing their hearing.

Sound of Metal is an intentionally misleading title. It’s about no longer being able to hear metal music, or sounds that vibrate through metals, and is about
[Show spoiler]the illusion of hearing through metal cochlear implants, that sounds distorted and metallic

The film is also accessible as at least in the DCP, it had burned in HOH subtitles.

I think the announcement was that "Time" and "One Night in Miami..." would be 2021 releases (though one would think they would have already announced one by now) and "Sound of Metal" would get a 2022 release. Surprising they'd save "Sound of Metal" for last as it's the most popular and revered film of the three from Amazon.

Finally got around to watch this. Great movie!

[Show spoiler]He literally destroyed his own hearing by doing what he loved and thought regaining it back thru technology would have solved it, but living with distorted noises/sounds constantly?

That isn't a way to live life and between that or deafness, the latter would probably be better, unfortunately.

Nothing really replaces biological hearing so once you lose it, nothing will come close to it. It's why I avoid loud noises myself (I'm sensitive to it and if I get near to it, it feels like it's gonna explode).

Criterion Sound of Metal (2020) 4K UHD

In Sound of Metal, a tale of sound, fury, and self-discovery, Riz Ahmed delivers an intensely committed performance as the volatile Ruben, who has found new purpose as a drummer in a noise-metal duo, playing blistering live shows with his singer girlfriend, Lou (Olivia Cooke). When Ruben suddenly loses much of his hearing, he is launched on a profound odyssey—through denial, anger, grief, and, gradually, acceptance—as he comes to understand what it means to live as a deaf person and to discover deafness as not a disability but a rich culture and community. Through stunningly immersive, Academy Award–winning sound design, director Darius Marder invites us to experience the world as Ruben does, capturing a sonic spectrum in which silence comes in a thousand shades.

Quote:

Love this movie, too bad there is no Atmos, but the 4K should be stellar.

Very excited for this. I imported the Australian Blu-ray several months ago thinking it would be a very long wait for a US release. This should look great in 4K DV.

Happy to see it's a 4K release. First Netflix 4K announced two months ago (Okja) and now Amazon.

Awesome. Obviously overshadowed by the Blow Out upgrade for me but this is a great movie. I'm happy it's coming in 4K. Was a little worried they'd stick to Blu-ray for Amazon stuff after One Night in Miami

I know it's readily available in 4K to stream, but given the celluloid source I am very happy to see this get a thoughtful physical release. Artwork looks great, features sound perfect, and hopefully they'll give the encode plenty of room to let that grain breathe happily.

I had been holding out on watching this movie for a long time, waiting for the US release. I finally broke down and watched it last month when I started up a Prime subscription again. All I can say is I'm not sure I can watch this again. Don't get me wrong, I thought the movie was amazing to say the least. Ahmed's performance was incredible.

Its one of those very rare movies that I loved but am very hesitant to revisit. I listened to a lot of loud music when I was younger (concerts/car stereo) and as of yet only very minor hearing issues.... but it is something I worry about as I get older.

Just got my 4K copy in and excited to spin it later. Really loved this one -- it's stuck with me the most out of that years Best Picture category (though it has great company).

Comes with a little foldout booklet inside, but that's about it besides the two discs.
