I had no clue these were being made! Glad they are, good cast, for those I know anyway. Eva Green will make a good Milady, imo. I just happened to find this to see what she was up to these days!

Yes, a great cast. Same director as Eiffel, who on the strength of that should be a good fit for the material. I’m glad it’s in two halves so the story can breathe.

Sounds like a winner. We shall see.

It's weird she hasn't been in much Hollywood stuff since Penny Dreadful ended. She always had an interesting screen presence, looking forward to this movie!

Has there been any other Three Musketeer movies actually done in France?

Yes, a few, the last being made in 1961. So the time is ripe for a new French version (although along with Dracula and The Hound of the Baskerville, there have been so many versions that it’s now impossible to make the “definitive” version.)

Surprisingly, the 1970s Richard Lester films, the 1993 Disney version, and the 3D one with Orlando Bloom had no location work shot in France.

However, The Man in the Iron Mask (1998) starring Leonardo DiCaprio alongside the Musketeers was shot in France.

This looks promising. The more gritty, earth based costume design is good too, I didn't see any of the Gray wigs and frills, doily cuffs clothing. And no doubt much better than the Paul WS Anderson Three Musketeers, which I was only able to watch 1 time in theaters.

As an aside I'd love a blu ray release of 1994s "La Fille de D'Artagnan" (I think retitled for the English speaking as "Revenge Of The Musketeers"?), which starred Sophie Marceau and Phillipe Norriet. I really enjoyed it.

This looks incredible! And well on the way to being THE “definitive” version if it sticks closely to the original novel. I'll be keeping a very close eye on this.

I recall the main French ones are the excellent 1921 serial on dvd, a 1932 film, and a 1953 version by Hunebelle. I think the best modern versions are the Oliver Reed Three Musketeers / Four Musketeers & the 2013 Russian mini-series (available on German blu ray but no subs). The Fifth Musketeer was very enjoyable as well, the German dvd is uncut and Alan Hale Jr. makes a great Porthos. For pre-70’s films there are also the excellent Fairbanks’ Three Musketeers on blu & Iron Mask on dvd, the Walter Abel version on dvd, and the Gene Kelly version on blu.
