Like Forrest Gump says... Maybe it's both. Maybe both is happening at the same time. Chicken or the egg? How you get to the latter is the former, or the latter is the starting point for the former

The stars didn't align, he worked his ass off as an artist that created art. When he did 30+ takes of Hound Dog that was his call.

You clearly hear him directing the output and making the song his own.

Elvis was not a lyricist. So what? Do we say Walt Disney didn't create a work of art because Pinnochio was a previous written story?

Stanley Kubrick wasn't a screenwriter either but are you going to question the results. No original music in his movies either. How does the world see 2001 compared to Also Sprach Zarathustra (Ironically Elvis defined it again).

Not seeing this "genuine" artist bit. So Elvis doesn't write...but he dances, plays the guitar/piano, sings, arranges, acts in movies...etc.

He mastered so many styles of music and wasn't just a one trick pop pony.

Is it really creating something new when you take the bass sound from Don't be Cruel and add lyrics for Ballad of John and Yoko or create no lyrics but completely turn the music world upside down with That's Allright Mama which has an incredible original arrangement that destroys the first recording?

Elvis didn't get lucky, he was a gifted artist that gave so much to the world that yes Frank may talk that stuff of doing it "his way", but I will always prefer Elvis My Way from 77 which was a beast and spoke of true sacrifice.

This garbage of Elvis "stealing" needs to be put to rest. If Elvis "stole" what were the other artist doing when they were influenced by him? Isn't a supposed rip off if a rip off still a rip off?

The actor they got doesn't look even close to Elvis, really is distracting.

Cultural assimilation aside. I think Elvis was a ‘had to be there phenomenon’. I’ve only ever thought of him as annoying, massively overrated and boring(movie looks to be consistent in these themes). I’ll take Little Richard, James Brown or Chuck Berry any day.

Baz's original cut is 240 minutes. I hope it gets released on 4K and Blu-ray.

While I do like some of his songs (and movies), and primarily listen to bands like: Queen, Led Zeppelin, Eagles, Pink Floyd and the like; I have huge respect and admiration for Elvis. Like The Beatles, he revolutionized music, and for me he was the definition of Rock N' Roll. It also helped that my father was a huge fan, and introduced me to his films and music.

And you are very, very wrong (though you have the right to that opinion) to say that he is "uninteresting". He was/is still such an influential figure in music and his personal life and fame is very interesting, and I can see why there is a film coming out about him.

I am personally looking forward to this film.

That´s your opinion. Elvis was much bigger than all three together.

The greatest thing about Elvis is that he´s the greatest icon ever and wasted lots of his talent.

Can you imagine how big Elvis would have been if he hadn´t wasted so much of his talent in stupid songs and movies?

Elvis had more charisma in his little finger than the other musicians had in their whole body.

I can’t believe we are getting Elvis in 4K before we gat any real Elvis in 4K. I can’t even get Blue Hawaii in HD. I’m happy for you Baz Luhrmann fans, but I want the King in 4K.

Most that claim to know have likely not got past a greatest hits.

The good news is that when I consider the source of ignorance it puts every single other post read in perspective.

As much as I would rather him have better use of his perfect voice in the 60's and been in Midnight Cowboy and A Star is Born, the path taken was pretty fantastic even to him belting out a perfect My Way rendition in 1977...the facts are he did do some decent movies along the way (Wild in the Country alway reminded me of Good Will Hunting..except I want to bang the shrink).

Love Little Richard and Chuck Berry but to compare to the catalog of Elvis is insanity.

I saw the previews for this. Since this is a biopic movie, I wanted to see Austin Butler play fat Elvis as well. They better show him as fat Elvis as he dies or I am going be thoroughly disappointed. I just think biopics shouldn't be a glorification of a character. Should show both the good and the flaws of a person.
