80s' audiences were mostly young getting used to all that FRIDAY 13th nonsense for thrills with the killer is not really dead. So they loved that crap.

Yep...pretty much ALL thrillers - even ones ostensibly aimed at adults - devolved into a slasher climax well into the 90s.

This echoes Roger Ebert's review. The one where he flat-out stated, "Give me a break."

The one thing I forgot about this movie is the guy that played Jim Walsh in Beverly Hills, 90210 made a cameo in this in the beginning at the Japanese restaurant. He made another cameo a year later in the movie Cocktail when Tom Cruise was in Jamaica.

Odd that since they put a 4K (The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance) into the Paramount Presents line, that this isn’t included (again). I guess they didn’t want to confuse everyone.

At least it means it will launch at $20. Also assume that means it will not include the BD in the package like Paramount’s non-presents UHDs of late.

I mean...the OP started this thread with a picture of the box, which answers that question.

James Eckhouse. I don't remember the FA scene with him in it, but I do remember him in Cocktail sitting at the beach bar in Jamaica. "Cameo" is being very generous. I don't think he had any lines, just facial gestures. More like an extra I would say

From an artistic standpoint, yeah, probably. But it was the theatrical ending that helped make it such a hit.

Well said. They did the right thing in the sense they wanted a successful movie, and they got it.

I prefer the theatrical ending. More suspenseful and intense. Works for a pulpy erotic thriller. The original ending belongs to a more serious drama.

It's weird, I've known about the original ending for ages and obviously know what happens in it, but I don't think I've ever actually seen it. Off to YouTube I go.

Yeah the theatrical ending is much better. It’s pulpy but it’s done really well, and it was nice to see Dan’s wife settle the score after all she’d been through, she was the true victim in the story.

Glenn Close really didn’t want to go with the theatrical ending because it made Alex ‘less sympathetic’ but I had no sympathy for that crazy, manipulative, psychotic bunny-boiling b**ch anyway. I get that an actor needs to empathise totally with their character but it’s like - you are the villain in this psycho-thriller, just own it.

And what a psycho-thriller. It’s pitch-perfect and all the performances are outstanding. I wish they still made films like this. It was nice to see Adrian Lyne return with Deep Water. It’s no Fatal Attraction but it was a pretty absorbing erotic thriller.

The Craft is the main one. The Halloween movies also look bad but I’m unsure if it’s the same issue.
