Default Are the seasons of Lost worth picking up?

Let me premise this question by saying, I've never seen an episode. When the show first started, I worked nights, and never had time to watch. I didn't watch the first season at all, and since it's a continuing story, like Heroes, I never picked it up at all. But now that they are available on blu, I've been reconsidering whether I should buy and watch or not.

I'm really a sci-fi kind of guy, so things along that line really intrigue me. Is Lost a sci-fi kind of show, or is it more something else?

I sure hope so cause I just bought the first 2 Seasons on Amazon like 5 minutes ago! Overnight shipping so I'll have something to watch this weekend!

You're probably better off renting it first to see if it's for you. All of my friends love the show, but when I sat down to watch an episode with a few of them, I found it to be terrible. Different strokes and all that, I guess.

I love the show but agree that I'd probably rent disc 1 of season 1 before dropping $220 or whatever it is for every season.

Umm ya it's a great show but some hate it for some reason. Go to ABC.com and watch the pilot. That's how I got started. If it's something that interests you, then go for it. We're always looking for new theorists in our LOST section.

FYI: It does air on the Sci-fi channel.

I consider it the best TV show in the history of the medium. For many reasons.

Nonlinear storytelling at its mindwarping finest.

Renting is always safe.

Buy them. You WILL watch them more than once.
It is THE greatest TV show ever written.

#1 unlike the guys above, I've never known or met anyone that hates or dislikes the show.

#2 you really should watch the premiere first because admittedly it isn't for everyone, but I'm talking like select few.

#3 it cannot in anyway be compared to Heroes. Don't get me wrong I like Heroes, but Heroes, contrary to opinions held only by few, died for me mid way through the third season. The writing just became horrendous. I don't know if I'll ever watch another episode. I am 100% committed to Lost on the other hand and think it's the best show ever (strong words I know!) One thing is for sure: it's not near as quirky as Heroes.

I think in the long run, you're going to be wanting every season of this show.

If you're into sci-fi you'll probably like it. It's not a straight sci-fi series and at first it doesn't seem like one at all, but there are certain elements that are gradually introduced and become more and more important as the show goes on (to explain this in any further detail would be a huge spoiler).

One thing, though: If you plan to watch LOST at all - stay way the hell away from any message board threads discussing the show until you've completely caught up. The coolest thing about the show is that even after five seasons it will still throw unpredictable twists at you that make sense within the context of the show and yet you'd never see them coming. Get spoiled, and this excellent aspect of the show will be gone.

EDIT: Oh, I just want to add that LOST is, in my opinion, one of those rare "great" TV series that comes along every decade or so and is remembered forever. That is all.

I love the show (of course) and the Blus are amazing. The show requires that you watch every episode and that you pay careful attention to details. I think you should try watching the first two episodes on the internet or rent them first before you buy. If you like them than order them on Amazon (they have a special until July 31).

I agree 100 percent with this. Just go to ABC.com and watch the pilot episode for those curious about the show. It is my all time favorite TV show. I am positive that there will never be anything close to this.

The reason I'm asking is that I'm heading to the States in a week, and plan on a little shopping. I'd probably pick up Season 1 and go from there. Thanks to those who shared about the show, but didn't throw any spoilers in. Unfortunately in Canada, we don't have access to ABC.com so I'll try the renting thing.

If you like heros then I wouldn't hesitate to pick these up. Lost trumps heros and any other show ever put on t.v.

The show is one-of-a-kind. I can't until tomorrow when I'll have seasons 1& 2 on my doorstep.

Just to throw a little perspective in here: My favorite TV show is anything Stargate and I've missed a few episodes here and there and I just pick up the ones I missed when the dvd's come out. However, I am addicted to Lost and have to see every episode the day they premiere. I recommend it highly.

It's a love/hate relationship kind of television series. You will love to hate the fact that you can't figure out what the hell is going on most of the time... correction... ALL OF THE TIME!

I can't get enough of it!!!

It's worth watching, but it's hard to rank it among the best TV shows since it still has one season to go. For me so far the seasons break down this way:

Season 1 - Starts off very strong, loses steam about 2/3 of the way through, and then ends with a weak finale.

Season 2 - Starts off fairly strong, but loses steam quickly and meanders til about the last 1/3 and then picks up again.

Season 3 - Starts off horribly, picks up a little bit in the middle 1/3 and then kicks ass for the last few episodes culminating in a mindblowing finale with a series-changing twist.

Season 4 - Kicked ass from beginning to end, all the more impressive considering the writers strike that nearly torpedoed the 2nd half.

Season 5 - I don't know what to make of this season. It was good TV, certainly watchable, but confusing as hell. I felt it fell back into the Season 1 & 2 trend of raising more questions than it answered.

I should point out that around halfway through Season 3, the writers and producers decided that the show would end after the 6th season and even knew exactly how many episodes were remaining. So it's no coincidence that things picked up late in the 3rd season and haven't slowed down since.

LOST is a fantastic show and I can't get enough of (it has great rewatch value.) Well rounded characters, an engaging/mysterious story with plenty of twists and a great score. I give this show the highest recommendation as I have never been more addicted to a show (friends/family agree as well.) Definitely check it out OP, I can nearly guarantee you won't regret it.

Great breakdown of the seasons, I agree except that I was more into S5 than you. It wasn't quite as focused and kick-ass as S4, but I thought it was consistently firing on all cylinders. Now it just has to pay off in S6. I can't believe it's just 17 more episodes.
