Default Ridley Scott Alien Series

https://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/en...en-series.html

Quote:
Exclusive: Ridley Scott Directing New Alien Series, Here Are The Details:

The Alien franchise is going through a bit of a revival. It had already been announced that a new series was being worked on for FX. This new series, however, has fallen under heavy criticism. The biggest criticism is that the show is going to be set on Earth, which is a far cry from the Ridley Scott format that had been established in the 1970s. This might have been the deciding factor for the long-time director and producer to get involved, as we can happily report through our trusted and proven sources that Ridley Scott is now working on his own Alien series for Hulu, which will be set in space.

There hasn’t been a movie or series set in the Alien universe since Ridley Scott directed Alien: Covenant in 2017. Now, the man is returning to his most beloved franchise. We can also report that Scott is going to be heavily involved not just on the producing level, but he will be writing and directing many of the episodes for the new Hulu series. It is quite interesting that there will now be two different takes on the same franchise seemingly happening around the same time. It might also be worth noting that Hulu is also going to be showcasing the Predator revival film, Prey, which will be premiering on the streaming platform in August. It would be wild to see if Scott is interested in bridging the two franchises.

It does seem a bit cruel that FX is now going to be in direct competition with Hulu in terms of releasing their shows. Ridley Scott directing his own Alien series is going to garner much more attention than the Noah Hawley series. No offense to the man, as Hawley created the Fargo series, which is also fantastic. However, now he has the stiffest competition going against the creator of the franchise. Also, Hawley was already taking a big risk by focusing on Earth instead of in space. Hawley’s series is meant to serve as a prequel, set some 30 years before the events of Ripley and her crew in the first Alien film. There has been no mention of where Scott’s series timeline will be placed.

Quite honestly, the Alien franchise has been one of the best and most entertaining, so we are completely fine with having two different takes. However, Ridley Scott directing his own Alien series has a bit of an unfair advantage. We hope that both are successful in their own rights and that Hawley’s offers a fresh new take that can be appreciated. Who knows, maybe Hawley will be more open to a crossover with the new Predator franchise too. We know we keep bringing it up, but can you imagine if either of these directors were up to blending the two? That would be amazing. We know those movies were cheesy, but they were still wildly entertaining.

We don’t know what to expect from Ridley Scott reviving Alien in his own series, but we can expect a ton of gory kills on the small screen. Xenomorphs are arguably one of the best-designed and creepiest creatures in cinema history, and we can’t wait to see if new versions will appear in his and Hawley’s new shows. Let the battle of the Alien shows begin.

Sounds good. So long as this leads to us getting 4k UHD's of Aliens and Alien 3 I'm good.

Absolutely agreed, here's hoping the former does not get DNR'ed into oblivion like other notable James Cameron titles, and the latter's on par with the ongoing project that makes sense of the opening restoring it to the original intention of David Fincher and Terry Rawlings before the studio insert in response to the rest screenings (The Egg) and cleans up the compositing (The Alien rod puppet) most crucially.

I'll remain optimistic for now. But even if it turns out to be 100X better than Prometheus and Covenant it will still be terrible.

No way we will get two different series. If the Ridley Scott series happens, the Noah Hawley series will be scrapped.

Not sure if it'll be that bad, LOL.

I disagree. There have been too many bad movie entries now and the movie thing for this franchise(if you can call it that)is just way past its sell-by date, IMO. A lot of Alien fans feel there hasnt been a truly good Alien-themed movie since 1986. I pretty much agree with them although Prometheus was OK, I guess.

TV has proven to be a good medium for carrying on shows and franchises. To me they do less damage to the brand if they are bad but can be nice additions & plenty enjoyable if they are good. So, I say they try the show route. Why not at this point? I dont think Id even bother seeing another Alien movie but I will give a show a try.

Dang. Blomkamp got cock-blocked by Ridders when he was touting his Alien movie and Rids is doing the same to Hawley. If only he could actually make a decent new Alien movie, then he wouldn't have all these pretenders to the throne.

I think this story is just an erroneous rehash of the Hollywood Reporter piece from March which claimed a new Alien film was in development at Hulu, with Fede Alvarez--Evil Dead '13--set to direct and Scott producing.

Too many things "in development" announced for me to be excited.
When I see information that it starts filming then I will start to get excited.

I still long for Prometheus 2 lol, honestly I’ll take just about any Alien project as it’s taking forever… Prey looks entertaining, love that Bear attack in the trailer

... and in my own (not) so very humble opinion...

while I certainly believe that Sir Ridley Scott was once a truly great film director/story teller, gifting us with cinematic classics such as "Blade Runner", "Alien" and "Gladiator"... I sincerely feel that his latest offerings are not nearly as compelling. I simply feel that his more talented offerings and days are well and truly behind him.

With regard to Noah Hawley, on the other hand... well, he is a fantastically talented and fiercely creative writer/show runner with a penchant for long form story telling who has gifted us with "Fargo" AND "Legion" two of my favorite television shows...

so despite what the article (and perhaps many fans of the beloved "Alien" franchise as well), seem(s) to be implying, I find myself looking forward to Noah's show far more...

I honestly hope they are both excellent offerings to the fans, but even in spite of the fact that the Hulu show will have more freedom with regard to content. I can't help but to feel that Noah is at the top of his game right now... more so than Sir Ridley.

The Last Duel ranks as one of his best overall. Jodie Comer was unbelievable in it (and unbelievably hot in it, too ).

The more I think about it, the less I believe it. First of all, I heavily doubt Scott himself would act as a writer, which is something he simply doesn't do. And secondly, right after the article, there's a link to a story about Tom Cruise being confirmed to star in Legend 2?

Really dig Prometheus and Covenant, in as all hell for this assuming it's real.

Really I think the weakness of the Alien prequels for me has been the writting, a combination of the Abrams clan crackhead style and studio meddling. Scott does I think still make pretty good looking and mostly well acted films but he was having to polish a turd with those scripts.

Is it weird that Ridley Scott had no power with Fox?

I spose you could argue he has been a bit of a gun for hire director for most of the latter part of his career.

I'm sure he had some power and maybe partly responsable for the scripts weaknesses having just lost some touch but to me both films feel like their confused by script via committee. Lindelof espeically to me seemed like the kind of appointment the studio probably were strongly in favour of.
